Question for Firemoose

Just looking at some of the bigger programs in the area (Clemson, USC, Tennessee, etc....) and they are mostly showing between 10-15 strong verbals at this time. When did App start getting some of their verbals last year ? I was thinking that it was around this time but could be wrong.

I'll let firemoose give his take, but I seem to remember most of our first verbals coming in June after our camps

Read an article a few weeks ago I think in the CLT Distruber regarding a verbal from a kid to TN. Bottom line is, I think, Verbals commits do not have a concrete offer until after school starts in the fall, or at least the summer. This kid committed early and told TN of it, they came back with that they would look at him in the summer then see if the offer still stands. An offer at this point in the year is not binding of the school. Anyone else see that? Am I way off base here.

Our first commit last year was was K AJ Wells on June 12th followed by our first commit that stayed in LB Devan Stringer on June 24th. He was followed by WR Deltron Hopkins on the 26th, OL Chandler Greer on the 29th (WR Rashad Canty was on the 29th also), and TE Brandon Walton on the 30th. OL Tobias Edge Campbell was next who stayed on July 6th (QB Emiere Scafe was on July 2nd) and it went forward from there.

Our first camp last year was our kicking camp and Wells committed then. First full camp was around June 15th (can't remember right off the top of my head) and all commits, starting with Stringer, came after those. This year our kicking camp is June 7th-8th, Skills camps, both individual and group, are June 11th-12th, followed by OL and DL camps for individual and group on the 13th-14th, Senior Clinic on June 15th and one day traveling camps in Charlotte and Raleigh on June 16. One month break until another Rising Senior camp on July 19th and the last camp (Might Mountaineer) on July 21st-23rd. We might pick up a commit before our first camp but I expect most will come after the full camps start.

Right now in the Belt Ark St has 3 commits, all from their backyard, Troy and USA have 2 and UL-L, Ga Sou, and Texas St. have 1 each. As we've seen above some early commits don't often stay committed, for various reasons, but I expect we'll have some commits coming in soon enough as this year we've had a pretty good mix of "SFTS" players and realistic players.

Thanks Moose for keeping up with everything. You have definitely made my off season a little more tolerable.

Another question for our recruiting guru. How much have the coaches been recruiting NC? I was speaking with Hal Capps, the head coach at Mooresville High School, and he said 32 D1 schools have had coaches visit but App has not. They have a young man, Chris Ingram, who is a rising sophomore DB that already has offers from NC State and ECU.

We seem to plow this ground at least once or twice a year.

I liken recruiting to a fishing tournament. To be successful you have to: a) go where the fish are big, b) where they're biting and c) where there aren't too many other anglers working your part of the lake.

North Carolina has a few trophy-sized fish but not nearly so many as in other states. And with now seven FBS fishermen from the ol' North State, the fishing pressure in this state is tremendous. We're using our limited recruiting resources in the most efficient and effective way.

They haven't hit NC as hard yet. We do have 10 NC offers out right now and I expect that number to go up in the next month or so. They started in AL, MS, LA and surrounding areas and are working their way back in this direction and, from what I'm hearing, they will be hitting NC, SC (they've been in SC a lot in the past 7 days and two more VA offers have gone out in the past week), VA, and TN closer to the camp dates, which are coming up. I said it in another thread but many of the visitors that came to the Spring Game and Junior Day weekend were from these states. The closer a player is to App the more likely they are to attend at least one camp day and some closer players will come to more than one day. I'm keeping a running total of offers and expect those from the closer areas to go up once camps start.

One thing I would add to 78's post is that we are also trying to expand our footprint this year as well which is why we hit those areas I mentioned above as hard as they did. 78 is correct in that there are more schools and less players in NC than in some of the other states and many of those players already know all they need to about the NC schools. Offering recruits from AL, TX, LA, MS, etc. often gives them a choice that they probably never though of before. But the staff has said it will be working NC more than in the past and since a lot of NC players came here for the game I'm figuring we'll see comparable numbers show up for our camp dates. I'm going to compare the offers to the past few years and also compare the offer to commit ratio. Last year it was a lot lower than most of our other recruiting areas. We'll see how it looks this year.

Moose, not sure what your numbers show, but I asked Satterfield about this at the Yosef Club tour and he said they offered as many players from NC as they did from Georgia, just got a lot more commits from Ga.

Personally I love what the staff is doing with expanding the recruiting footprint.

Moose is probably scooping our next PWO or a 2015 DT that is 6'1" and goes around 305. I'll take this one.
The square root of 789345612 is : 28095.29519332374

Based on my very unofficial numbers we had 59 GA offers and 51 NC offers but I know there were more than those for each. I'm only getting info on offers from net searches. Not everyone posts an offer, especially those who have no real interest. Even the recruiting sites with all their resources, miss a lot of the offers. We learned at the signing day event we had over 300 offers. I had 262 on lists. 24/7 had 201 and Rivals had 169 (I am proud to say though that I had a page built for every signee we had). And of course we can't bother the staff with every offer that goes out that we see but commits are a different story. Each one of those that pops up gets confirmed, if possible, before posting and even after it's put up I still double check them, just as the recruiting sites do.

Now to the second part of the question, of just the NC and GA offers I had we had 4 NC commits and 13 GA commits. As you can see the offer to commit ratio is higher with GA than NC. As Coach said there are a lot of D1 schools in NC competing for players. We are working for NC players but there are many things that come into play and it's always going to be a job to bring in NC kids.
