Would Michigan Have Paid Us $5,000,000 For The Rematch?
Know it sounds like an incredible amount for one game.
The TV networks were fighting over the game according to Michigan's AD.
The rematch was announced in 2011.
I would have asked for $5,000,000.

"Why? Because from the time he announced the Wolverines would welcome Appalachian State back to Michigan Stadium in 2014, people haven't stopped talking about it.
"I'm kind of a marketing guy and I like setting up games that have a lot of interest," Brandon said recently. "We're going to play Appalachian State and I get a lot of advice on that game.
"The networks were fighting over who gets to televise that game.""
Believe we would have received at least $3,000,000 if not $5,000,000.
That being said, it was nice of Michigan to have given us the game to begin with since it was
said that they had never played an FCS team before.
Michigan makes about $6,800,000 per home game, so some of the money would have had to have come from what they would make on the network broadcast.
What are we getting actually, an even one million. Would it have been $600,000 or $700,000
if we were still FCS? Am sure will get some hate posts for suggesting we could have received more but would have been a good lump sum toward debt reduction or stadium improvements.
Who is broadcasting the game anyway? The Big Ten Network only?

Re: Would Michigan Have Paid Us $5,000,000 For The Rematch
would have been nice to get more money, but the going rate is around a million, Michigan really doesn't have any reason to pay us more. Im curious what network, if any, is going to carry the game. After we beat them the first time, the rumor is ABC put togeather the rematch, and was contemplating making it their top televised game of the day, but fast forward to the present, we have fallen back, last year was horrible, first year in the FBS, Michigan, by their standards is not very good. Now, ABC or some other network, sees a major program on the decline, not even a top 25 team next year vs a start up FBS program, not exactly the game they want to promote as the big game of the day. I think as the game gets closer, the interest will build, ESPN will probably promote the game, but I don't know if it will be enough for a major network to carry, Im betting just on the BTN covering the game.

If Ohio State and Penn State had their own networks, the Michigan game would be broadcast on theirs. Just kidding of course.GoApps70 wrote:Would Michigan Have Paid Us $5,000,000 For The Rematch?

Looking back to 2011 when the rematch was announced believe there was a lot more interest and both Michigan and App State could have made a lot more money on the game. Of course Michigan may have signed some TV rights and made a lot more money. Guess we will find out some day.

No they would not have paid us $5 million, or $3 million. But it might not be unreasonable to think we could have gotten a little more than $1 million. I read the other day that ODU is getting $1 million to play at Vanderbilt, so you would think App @ Michigan would be worth more than that.
