APP/Michigan Tidbit

I went to see my physician today and we started talking APP football because I was wearing an APP shirt. He went to Michigan and told me on a recent trip to campus, he went by the bookstore and he noticed that there was a big section of the store dedicated to "GO BLUE-BEAT APP" merchandise! He told me that Michigan wants to win this game BIG TIME! Even though our victory happened in 2007, they still feel the sting of that defeat! GIVE EM HELL, APPS!!

I say someone needs to make this shirt with the red font changed to gold.

It's been obvious for a long time they want this game. I think we should have held out for more money. Start out saying 2M and settle for no less than 1.5M is what we should have done. Michigan would have paid anything they could afford. They will beat our butts this time around. They will not overlook us and they are prepping hard for us. Rumor is that their coaches have been prepping for this game as if we are Ohio State. They know they can't afford to lose to us again. If we win this game, it's because we are truly the better team. There is no arrogance or overlooking of App State in this year's Michigan team. You can bet on that.
It's kind of ironic. Their arrogance cost them the game against us and our own arrogance caused a 3-time FCS National Champion to fire a HOF coach, gradually decline in wins, and to fall so far that we ended up losing to Charleston Southern. I wish I could have seen just how far we would fall within 6 years of our NC. I could have made a TON of money betting people LOL. I hate that it happened but it has and we have to rebound.
We aren't the same App State team we once were. We now have to work and fight to become a winner again. I have no doubt we will and we are in a new league with a fresh start. This is the perfect time to begin that rise back up!

I graduated in May from App and currently live in Ann Arbor (wife is getting her PHD from Michigan). I haven't seen any mention about this game, nothing in any stores or bookstores. In fact I've dropped the name App State a few times around town and only a handful remember us. I'll keep looking though!

Denial is one of the many stages of grief. It's taken them 7 years to reach it.

Michigan and probably App will not admit it, but this is a big game for both programs, Michigan isn't the program it once was, and to make matters worse Ohio State is again, a national contender, , attendance is down, a buddy of mine from Michigan, told me they called his brother trying to sell him season tickets, said he had never seen that before since traditionally, people were on the waiting list for years, and this was the first time anyone had called him. Their coach makes over 4 million a year, they aren't going to pay him that kind of money to finish 6-6, he had better win this year, or he is probably gone. He knows that nothing less than destroying us will be acceptable to the fans, he is going to try and score every which way he can think of, might as well leave his punter home for this game. As far as App, SS knows that even though we finished last season strong, the fans still remember had bad things were for the first 7 games, he knows we need to get off to a good start in our first year of FBS to keep the fan's attitudes positive towards the program. I don't expect us to win this game, but I think we can keep it respectable if some of our young players are ready to go, regardless, its going to be an interesting game.

The college students and average person around there may have forgotten but I know for a fact their athletic department and football team has not. Coaches have been showing that 2007 game to the current players and have them ready. They will be prepared. Arrogance will not bite them this time. Behind closed doors they know this game is important. Losing to us is not acceptable to them.

Losing wasn't acceptable to them the first time.

I can back this up. I'm not sure where the OP got this from, but I have yet to come across a single UM fan that even knows we are their season opener.
I am sure in the week or two leading up to the game things will change, but what the OP states does not seem to be the norm for the locals around here.

I agree it's not in the current areas near Ann Arbor that aren't on campus (have two friends who live in the area who say that) but I see in the neighborhood of 20 to 50 tweets a day (some days worse, some better) in my searches from Michigan fans and alumni, most of them that were there around the time of the loss, posting about the upcoming game and/or revenge. And at least triple those coming from Michigan haters laughing at them and reminding them of it. Of course I have multiple windows and tabs in those windows searching twitter alone plus all my other searches. I'm bound to come across more than the norm.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that my Physician saw this merchandise in a store in and around Ann Arbor. He is not the kind of person to make this up. I took it to be a bookstore on campus. Undoubtably, someone up there is trying to make some money on this rematch! I don't believe many on this board realize how much HELL that Michigan received and continues to receive from schools like Penn State, Ohio State, and many others. Maybe some of you who live near Michigan are not hearing anything BUT you better believe that this game means a lot to the school, alumni, fans, coaches, and football players. When he was talking to me yesterday, it surely DID NOT MATTER that this loss happened 7 years ago. I want to add that he has a lot of repect for APP State! GIVE EM HELL APPS!

Here's a good antedote of the state of Michigan athletics right now. It's not so much that they've been struggling in recent years, but how the AD's office has lost touch.

Are schools such as Michigan that charge for student tickets also charging student fees to run the athletic department ?

read that article, runs the dept like a CEO of a fortune 500 company, short term will make alot of money, but in the long term, he is burning alot of bridges with alumi, if he doesn't change his approach, he will alienate enough of the big time donors and the middle class who will no longer be able to afford the games, eventually, he is going to run that program in the ground

No they don't need student fees to subsidize their programs due to the huge sums of revenue they bring in each year.

Would people like AppState2014 just let the JM thing go? It's fine to turn the page. Do not lay the blame on everyone but him. As for Michigan I don't care. Nothing they do will take away the shock and awe of that day in the history of college football. I just wish I could go this time and renew my chat with the fans who politely looked down their noses at us pre-game and hid after.
