The Sun Belt Teams Coming to Boone 2014/15

The four Sun Belt teams coming to Boone were a combined 13-35 overall last season. None had a winning record; two broke even, one won once, and one didn’t win at all. On the road they went 6-19. Going back further, only two have managed a winning record in the past three seasons …. once each.

Let's also remember we went 4-8 against lesser competition last year.
We will be better this year, but that doesn't mean our record will improve.

Yeah, I'm not ready to say we win six, and to be honest I'm not that concerned about number of wins. I want to look for improvement--from the coaches and the players. If we win six, then Scott and his staff have done a TREMENDOUS job of getting the right players and schemes down--even if two of those wins are against FCS teams.

Campbell.....yeah. But we said the same thing about A&T.
South Alabama finished last year roughing up UL-Lafayette and won three in a row to close out.
Liberty will be ready to play. Turner Gill is becoming a better coach by the year. He wasn't ready when he shot up the ranks to go to Kansas.
Georgia State, although they went 0-12, were rebuilding after Billy Curry left them in a mess. Trent Miles is a good coach and the last coach to beat NDSU in the Fargo Dome. They'll win some games.
UL-Monroe is always dangerous with their wide-open offense.
Idaho....even with Paul Petrino as coach I don't see good things for them flying cross-country at the end of a long season. Still, it's our 10th 85-scholarship team we'll face in 14 weeks. Plus we'll be coming off trips to stAte and ULa-La.
The grind is a big threat to our team. They could get demoralized some of these weeks. Being competitive is a must if we want to finish the season on a high note.

To me, the minimum goal for a successful first season is 4-8, while staying competitive in the majority of the losses. 6-6 would be a home run, but I do think it's a realistic goal.
-Campbell should be a blowout.
-Liberty isn't a lock, but let's just assume a win there, because if we don't beat them, it's safe to say we're going to suck big-time.
-Georgia State is not "rebuilding," they're still trying to build for the first time. They and Idaho were probably the two worst teams in FBS last year - worse than App's 4-8 team. Both are pretty much must-wins for a respectable season.
-Southern Miss has also been among the worst teams in the nation the past two years, though they're obviously far more established as a program than Ga. State or Idaho.
-Georgia Southern we know about. That one looks like more or less a toss-up.
^^Of those six games, I think we need at least four to have a solid season. If we're going to get to 6-6, we probably need at least five of these six IMO.
After that, you hope to pick off one or two more of ULM, USA and Troy, with ULM being the best chance in my view.

I think we win 5 games, maybe 6. Although, I could see us winning just 4. To me, if Scott doesn't win at least 5-6 games this year he should definitely be gone. Like you said, it doesn't mean our record will improve for sure but we do play 2-3 Sun Belt teams we have a real shot to beat.
We have talent. We just didn't achieve what we should have last year and had the injury at QB. Our season will depend on the personnel decisions on the OL, QB play, and how healthy our team is as a whole. Our new strength coach will hopefully have these guys in the type of shape we were use to under Mike Kent and Jeff Dillman.

I think firing Scott if he doesn't win 5-6 games is a ridiculous position to take. He's a second-year HC, with a team full of mostly players he didn't recruit--especially last year. What kind of a message would we send to other coaches if we treated one of our own like that? I just don't get that mentality.

Scott and staff have improved in every facet of their positions sans winning games in under 18 months on the job.
Recruiting has improved - the process at the FBS level is more intense and time consuming and they hit the ground running. I certainly did not expect the results they were able to achieve (beating peers for recruits) in year one.
Academics have improved - the football team GPA is higher
Community outreach has improved - love reading about what the student athletes are doing in this regard
This plus the move to the FBS has provided Scott and staff IMO four years to see what they can do. Way too early to even bring up a win number for a given year or it's time to move on.

SS would either need to have some serious off-field issues or display mind-boggling incompetence beyond just W-L record to justify firing him after this year. 4-8 wouldn't even come close to that standard. In fact, looking historically at first-year FBS teams, that's about what we should expect, give or take a game.

WoW - haven't even gotten to fall camp and already we have "must be fired" scenarios --- GEEZ - REALLY??? - short of some type of criminal happenings or serious, serious off the field issues Scott Satterfield will be the head coach for the next several years, at least ---

This isn't Alabama, champ. Pump the brakes a little bit on firing. Deserves at least 4 yrs

This thread is what I'd call a "move over" from AppFans and was already a completely dead horse before anyone posted here. I just see it as being entirely unnecessary to re-plow the same acreage.
And for crying aloud, can we let Scott and his staff prepare to go to Michigan w/o a sharp ax hanging over his head. Good grief, Charlie Brown!
This thread stinks.Sometimes I wonder what...oh, never mind...I'll just go off and mutter to myself.

Agreed, very pointless thread. It's pretty pathetic own "fans" of the program troll the boards. If you don't like what's going on in the new generation of App football you have about 2 options: find another team (we won't miss you) or accept what's going on here is right and jump on board. Here's to the fans excited for a step up in competition, new revenue streams, and playing schools my friends won't laugh and ask who that is

Had he won 7 or 8 games, or more last year he would certainly have a minimum of two years to show improvement in the Sun Belt but last season definitely put pressure on him. I'm not saying I would let him go if he doesn't win more than 5 games but I think the pressure is on Charlie and he will let him go if he only wins 3 or 4 games, unless all the losses (outside of maybe Michigan) are competitive.
I am one of those who says he should only go if he wins just 3 games, meaning Campbell, Liberty, and maybe Georgia Southern or Idaho.
Look at our schedule and tell me we should not win a minimum of 5 games. We have Liberty, Idaho, Georgia State, and Campbell at home along with games we should be able to win at USM and Ga Southern. I would normally agree with you but with the talent we have and potential to be a Sun Belt contender in 2015, we have to win more than 3 or 4 games this year. To me, we should win no less than 5. We have many games we can win and we have a returning starter at QB who doesn't have injury issues. Our recruiting classes have been so much better the last 3 years and many of those guys are now juniors and sophomores. We don't have a lot of seniors and certainly should not expect 8 wins but should expect 4-6. 2015 should be no less than 7 wins. We will have a lot of upperclassmen talent in 2015, something we haven't been able to say in quite a while.
Moving up was the right move and I just want to see improved coaching of our players and development of them in the weight room. We will find out quickly how good the new strength coach is if our players look faster and stay healthy. I actually think he is going to be good and I expect our team to look much better this year. You can mark this down. If we win 2 or 3 games this year, Charlie will be making calls before the season is over and we will have a new head coach. I don't think that happens and there is no excuse for less than 4 wins anyway. Like I said, there is talent in Boone right now.

Good grief. They sure do come out of the woodwork this time of year. Kinda like the gnats in the Stink. Not even going to waste the time to point out everything that is wrong. Not worth it.

There have been some dumb posts on this board, but this one immediately jumps to the top 5. Please put the pipe down and stay out if athletic administration.
