We are getting a little love for first year in SBC. I would be happy with this finish for first year FBS.

I'm hoping this one is closer to reality because - Phil Steele's magazine has us 10th - Ugh ---

Truthfully, the 7th place prediction is the most realistic. Better than 7th would be a pleasant surprise, worse than 7th would be a disappointment.

I have never been impressed with Phil Steele's analysis for any level of competition. I honestly am surprised that he retains any credibility over the years based on what I have seen historically from his publications.
There is no doubt this year is a crap shoot for App with all the unknowns. However, I personally will be disappointed if we don't win 5 games. I think it is possible with our schedule that we could get to 6-8 if the team stays healthy. plays to their potential and gets a few breaks. At the same time, if we come out like we did first half of last year and we don't get any breaks (i.e. I challenge NC A&T to punt like they did last year ever again) then we may only see 2-3 wins.

I really don't pay attention to preseason ranking or gameday predictions for that matter - Speaking of Steele's magazine, if anyone is a stats person this one is for you - I've never seen so many numbers, etc. ---

I have been looking at various meechigan message boards, they seem to be more concerned about attendance and Ohio St. Band director than games this season. That is good

Pre-season rankings mean absolutely nothing. In 2005, we were not ranked in the top 25 in the pre-season poll. It's hard to know what to expect, but I'm an unapologetic homer, so I think things are going to continue to turn in the right direction and the Apps will surprise some people this year. I will continue to believe that until I'm proven wrong on the field.

We should be able to count Campbell and Liberty as guaranteed wins.

Then again, we should have been able to count NC A&T and Charleston Southern as wins last year.

We were out coached by Rod Broadway as I predicted.

I wouldn't call Liberty a guaranteed win. They won at Charleston Southern 56-14.

Those are up there when it comes to all time embarrassing losses.
Granted I'm not as seasoned as many MMBers.

I agree that we shouldn't count Liberty as "guaranteed". They are capable of playing pretty well. That being said, our loss to Charleston Southern was a direct result of our own failure to execute and a few really bad mistakes. They didn't come up and dominate anything. They did have a decent dual threat QB, whom I believe was injured and unable to play against Liberty. We all know what happens when you build a team around a stud QB who gets injured! App was a very different team at the end of last season than we were at the beginning.
We have a lot of questions to be answered, but until they are answered I hope the team doesn't take a single game lightly.

Reminds me of the saying: "He who doesn't study the past is bound to repeat it". Or, something like that.

Oh sure, the coaches and team will study the past to prepare for the future - I am referring to fans still bitching about losing games in the past - time to move forward!!! ---

I started at the top of the thread and read down, didn't read/hear anyone bitching??? Just being cautious and a little gun shy, that's all.

Disagree, the Past can be a hell of a motivator. Especially when lesser team come up the mountain and push you around. I say let's marinate in the past to really peeve off our guys into making something good happen!

Absolutely 91 - I wasn't referring to coaches and players - only fans "living in the past" ---

No i am with you. I posted in 2011 that it was time to retire the "big house" t shirts and get on.
It is serious how this program has fallen since 2007.
