WTH Happened to the team that played last week?

Unread post by appgrad81 » Sat Sep 15, 2012 5:05 pm

Where was our DEFENSE in the first quarter? Where was our long awaited Coach Satterfield and his brilliance? This was just embarrassing! Wonder what Coach Moore will say after this game? He always says the same thing...." they were a better team, blah, blah, blah"! It's time to make some Moore changes!

What happened.... to summarize, Sam Martin did one heck of a fantastic job kicking off, punting, punting, punting, punting, punting, punting, punting and punting. Tony Washington did a great job of returning kickoffs, kickoffs, kickoffs, kickoffs, kickoffs, kickoffs, kickoffs, kickoffs, and kickoffs.

The App crowd largely gave up on the team and left them to face the Citadel alone (well there were a few of us diehards still pulling for our guys at the end, Very few.... Oh, yes Miller got a great deal of practice running the ball and at times was able to make some nice plays.

We have to give credit to the Citadel they brought their (A ) game to our house and proved their win against GSU was not a fluke. They are for real. Somehow that fact escaped our team (meaning, coaches and players as well as the fans). Myself included, but I congratulate them for putting together a great team effort. Wish I could go to Chatty next week. I have a feeling our team needs our fan support real badly at this time.

Are we talking about the same Coach Moore that beat nationally ranked Montana last week?

Knee jerk reactions only show just how fickle fans can be. My wife forgot to bring me a drink while I was mowing yesterday... I should divorce her! Golly geez man, get a grip.

You wanna know why Carolina sucks so bad. Because they change coaches ever 2 years cause they can't find one that will please people and when they do, he cheats and gets them on probation. Everyone thought that Satterfield was the savior and now his playcalling is getting blasted. Everytime we lose, its fire Moore. Now I sat through that whole shit show today and you can't have it both ways guys. It was painful to watch but honestly, if you put that all on coaching your crazy. We got beat in every phase, coaching, execution, offense, defense, special teams. Maybe App should just let Jerry retire. When a similar result happens next year under the savior Satterfield, is everyone going to call for his head too???

Amen and a plus point for you.... I agree with you. I told my wife on the way home the first message on the board tonight would be somebody calling for coach Moores head.... I was correct. Last year it was the "committee" now they are back to attacking coach Moore. OK he is the leader so he has to take the blame along with the fame I get that.... but really is the play calling all that different this year under Satterfield???? Don't get me wrong I like Satterfield and think in time he is going to help this team. But honestly, tonight the defense did horrible... Satterfield's (and he is the offensive coordinator) offense also stunk. That is simply the way of it. I prefer not to blame at this time. Citadel just deserves some credit they had the game plan and they did the job. When a team kicks your butt that badly give them some credit.

Honestly if we want to start looking at coaching, the obvious first person to look at after giving up 600 yards and 52 points should be the defensive coordinator. Not much the OC can do when your getting gashed that bad.

You can always tell the maturity of a fan by how quickly they resort to name calling or scream "fire insert name here" after a loss.

Every dog has their day... The Citadel had theirs today. You see, when you play a game, you have to understand that you will win some and you will lose some. If you're good, you're going to win more often than not.

Here at Kidd Brewer we've got a 78% win rate. That's pretty darn good... But you have to realize that we lose 22% of the time at home as well.

We lose to teams in the SOCON. We lose to teams that run the Triple Option. We lose to national powerhouses in the same vein we lose to the "little guys" Heck, we've even lost to teams from Cullowhee.

This isn't even the worst loss I've seen at App. Anyone care to remember the VMI game? Talk about losing to a team we "shouldn't" lose to. Funny to think that if we would've canned Coach Moore after that loss we would've never seen our string of 3 national championships.

So I'd recommend taking a deep breath, maybe a long walk and shake this one off. We put a season of lopsided losses and unprepared teams together and then MAYBE we talk firing a coach... But until that happens we do what all mature fans do and support our team no matter how ugly it gets.

He's a coach. He isnt god. He can't make the players execute or force the defense to make tackles. Im not saying coaching should not have some blame, but this was a complete meltdown from multiple directions.

I am not saying anybody should be fired today.

Citadel is clearly a very good team this year, so losing this game is not what really makes me mad. My problem is all about how we lost. Our team got totally dominated in every aspect of the game today. I know we are more talented that we played today so that is what really pisses me off. The coaches own some of the blame but it looks like the players were not mentally prepared for this game. I hope they all learn a big painful lesson.

Not arguing with you, but who is to say that we wouldn't have 10 national championships if they had fired Coach Moore way back then?

Personally I believe he has been a good coach. Not sure the same can be said for the last few years.

Main thing is to ensure something like this does not happen very often, if at all. Whether humpty dumpty or Knute Rockne is the coach.

It's amazing that The Citadel is so much better than last year. They clearly were the better team. I'm still shaking my head at the fact the laid the lumber to us like they did.

Over the last 3 seasons at home we've dominated a top 5 Wofford team at home and laid an egg the playoffs at home, Spanked a top ranked Gnat Swarm at home and laid an egg in the playoffs at home, and beaten a tough top ten Montana team and laid an egg the following week. Explain those to me? The Committee never lost to the Citadel, that was the Committee's best offensive performance last season. The boy wonder SS had no answers, however I think we are banged up and depth is an issue in the backfield is hampering us for now.

Maybe The Citadel is riding the perfect storm this season? Before today, based on everything Citadel I knew and what I saw last week from APP, nobody could have made me believe what happened today. For our sake I hope Citadel is really that good as they rolled us today. Hopefully this is one of their good teams they have every 10-12 years.

I sat in the stands and watched their 92 team spank us, but not like today

To date:

ASU 68 First Downs Opp 68
ASU 529 yards Rushing Opp 787 yards
ASU 4.7 yards Per Carry Opp 5.5 yards
ASU 664 yards Passing Opp 704 yards
ASU 9.4 yards Per Catch Opp 14.9 yards
ASU 1253 yards Total Offense Opp 1481 yards
ASU 25 points Pts/game Opp 38 points
ASU 30% 3rd Down Opp 58%
Conversion

Three games in, it is hard to see that our offense is performing at the dynamic level many claimed it would with the return of Satterfield. Thus far, I have not seen any real difference in the play calling. Only when the game was out of hand did we see any creativity displayed. We failed to throw any passes longer than 6-8 yards.

Much credit to the Citadel. They were better prepared and far more physical than we were. Their execution was nearly flawless. It is hard to deny that they were the better team. With consecutive victories over Ga Southern and ASU, I think it safe to say they are for real.

Our youth and inexperience is showing on both sides of the ball. We are giving up way too many big plays. The next game is said to be the most important game. It certainly holds true for our next game. It could determine the fate of our season. It will interesting to see how they respond to the challenge. Our last two meetings have resulted in ASU victories of 2 points (14-12) and 1 point (42-41).

I think their are enough failing grades from yesterday to be shared by the whole team. This really wasn't the same players that showed up for Montana

Your stats really indicates a problem with our defense as well.

I remember when AE was out or banged up we weren't the same well oiled machine. So, missing at least 2 offensive starters and having JJ less than 100% and no apparent replacement like we currently are on a relatively young team isn't a recipe to light any scoreboard against better than average competition. I think SS hands are tied at the moment. If we lose anymore offensive players, it'll get worse.

Just maybe, if everyone is healthy, we have rb depth, Price isn't out we pick up some early first downs and answer some scores or keep them from scoring as quickly, maybe it is a different ballgame? Nah, it's hard to win when you give up the 3rd down conversions, big plays, and points we currently are.

Dale Jones' performance has been equally poor or worse than the Boy Wonder's, he's been giving up more points..42-27-52.....or maybe as some see SS hasn't been scoring enough 14-35-28........ :?:

Buckle that strap, because my 1-3 prediction for the first month is fastly becoming a reality, even though I thought The Citadel was going to be our lone win. Forget Frisco, the playoffs are a stretch at the moment.

Either way we are better off without The Committee.

This is a rebuilding year. We are young, inexperienced, and have little depth at key positions. We should expect some losses, but not to this extent and at home.
