He really speaks openly and honestly about how poorly the WRs played on Saturday. He talks about his desire for Sumler to work harder in practice.

"Honest" is a fair assessment. It sounds like the criticism is constructive in nature with specific areas of improvement for each player necessary.

Refreshingly honest comments from Stepp. He is one of the best young coaches we have had in a long time. I wouldnt be surprised to see him become a head coach down the road.

I got to have a nice chat with him about the WR group at the Yosef Club spring tour. He was definitely excited to get all the freshmen on campus, but I think he was also realistic about having to throw them into the fire for some on the job training.

We have no tall wideouts, but no mention of Meadors? I assume he's a redshirt?

Yes he's redshirting...and from what I hear, not real happy about it.

Meadors was I'll during a good portion of camp. He's thin and needs to bulk up. However his pure skill is there.

in the coaching staff defense, and from what I read, Meadows was sick/injured for a lot of the fall camp which put him behind the other receivers, cant really fault the staff for redshirting him

Could always change, if we have injuries or the WRs just keep struggling and Meadors starts outplaying them in practice, that redshirt could come off.

Illness or not, that one surprised me, assuming he's 100% now.

What Stepp said is honest and I like it. I won't call out names but I have the threads saved and we certainly could lol. I'm not against Sumler but just tired of his fan club when he hasn't done anything. I really hope he gets it together but I'm a realist and don't expect more than 15-20 catches in mop up duty out of him.

You totally missed the point of his comment. He's waiting on someone specific to get mad that a player was called out specifically in public, because players are fragile and shouldn't be criticized.

I love what Coach Stepp had to say. When a player does not perform in practice or give the necessary effort, he should be called out. He's getting a nice education (for free) so he is open to criticism as is everyone else. Just because he once was a 4 * recruit and played at Oregon, does not exempt him from criticism or working hard in practice.

Ok, I actually have a call out for the coach. Some of you may remember me talking to coach Satterfield about our history with FBS teams and how they man up on our receivers, including holding, and how we have not worked out how to play through it.

I was livid on Saturday cause it was obvious that Michigan did their homework and we did not. Compound that by coach Satterfield saying we were not ready cause Michigan did not play man last year, just threw me over the edge.

So, mistake #1, mulligan given, but I will be calling for change if this keeps up.

We are in the Big League now, act like it or someone else will be doing your job

In basketball there is a game called roughhouse, our dbacks and receivers need to practice the football version!!

Same here. If that was the case he would have been better off not admitting it.

We will see a lot of this type coverage since our QB has yet to prove he can stretch the field.

I hope none of us fans (and that's all we are... fans) really believe that we can educate our coaches on what to look for in terms of scouting out other teams. I mean, it's cool we can interact with our coaching staff. All of the coaches I've met have been very personable and polite.

That said, does anyone believe that we bring value to the table in terms of football insight? No offense, PhillyApp, but we all watch and enjoy App State football as a hobby. Coaches make their living off of knowing this stuff. Genuine question: Do you think you really gave Satt a "head's up" when you talked to him about App State vs. FBS teams?

I believe Coach Satt could've bugged Brady Hoke's office through fall camp and known exactly what they were going to do and Michigan would've still been able to shut down our WRs... they just aren't good enough to go head to head with Michigan DBs.

If you don't have WRs that can adjust to press coverage, how can you be upset at the coach for not being able to adjust?

First, I don't want anyone to get mad.

Second, it's simply satisfying that Coach Stepp (you know, Tacoi's coach) essentially confirmed my statements about Tacoi from fall camp. But when I said it, all of Tacoi's best internet friends and experts came out of the woodwork, criticized me for having an opinion and stated his injury bug and Harvard scholarship were proof that I was wrong.

Well, it turns out his coach thinks he doesn't work hard enough. Hmmm...

Again, I'll state this: if Tacoi can help App State win games, I hope he does so and prove everyone (especially me) wrong.

I agree with you 100% but as casual fan for 20 years I have seen App receivers being pressed over and over by FBS teams just like our O line has been pushed around for many years.

You may be right, that we don't have the players but Satterfield said they didn't prepare for it.

Either way, i see progress but that stuck out for me and I think other teams will press us until we prove we can beat it.
