Where to sit to see the band?

My daughter is a freshman and is in the marching band. Where should I sit to get fairly close to the band? Also, what should I do about parking? What time should I get there, etc? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Get there early to park and be prepared to pay if you don't have a pass. Anywhere is good to see the band, but I hope you have tickets already. HOWEVER, be sure to stay in the stands after the game, as the band will come out and play "The Tennessee Waltz" and you want to be on the Press Box side of the field (west) for that. Best part. Still get chills. Myself and a few other players would try to get out of the locker room as fast as we could to hear em, but then we were dating girls in the band, majorette, etc. :D

The Lutheran church on King Street is a good place to park. Kind of a long walk but they don't have a set price they just ask for donations. They use the money to help fund the Lutheran Students of Appalachian campus ministries. My daughter is part of that group and they do great things. You can get closer but you will pay $15-20 and still have a pretty long walk. If you don't already have a ticket you might end up on the hill behind the end zone opposite where the band sits. If you have a choice get on the West side as that is the side the band plays to pre-game and at halftime.

First Baptist Boone also has parking. It's on King St right beside the Library parking deck. The Watauga Social Services lot is free and has a shuttle that drops off fairly close to the stadium.

I do recommend getting in early (2:00?) to have your choice of the non-Yosef lots. All of the university lots anywhere close to the stadium are reserved for boosters at various levels.

The band usually enters the stadium about an hour before kickoff. Sitting behind the student section and watching their reaction to the band's entrance is priceless!

Congratulations on having an App student and member of the Band of Distinction in your family! Stop by #76 in the stadium lot (middle of the row closest to the stadium) and say hello. We'll be glad to share our food and our tent.

Thanks for the info, folks. It sounds like I should be able to drive down Kings Street (as long as I get there early enough) and find some decent places to park either for free or for a donation to a good cause. I'm hoping to get there about mid-morning so hopefully that will be early enough. :D

Congrats to the BOD on their performance tonight. Certainly looked and sounded like old times.
