Can't imagine a better game for recruiting purposes. Wonder what they are paying us?

T-Dog just tweeted $1,000,000. I've been tied up on something else so I hadn't checked. I'm sure he's correct.

EDIT: He's correct.

Didn't get to make it last season. Glad to see this. Notice a certain baby blue colored team avoiding us like the plague.

I know App has to take some of these game for $$, but why do we always play the best of the best. LSU, VT, Georgia, Florida. Why can't we play a few non-top 10 teams? Fans always get excited for these games when they are years out, then when the game comes, it sucks if we get destroyed. Wish they would mix in some of the bigger names that we have a shot of beating or staying close

Because those non top 10 teams are probably afraid to play us

We got demolished by a not-even-close-to-top-10 team two weeks ago.

ETA: I do agree with you though. Obviously UNC isn't going to play us, and I'm not sure when State will again either. But I wouldn't mind taking a shot at someone like UVa or Vandy.

My guess is that the answer to your question is that the biggest names pay the biggest money.

Or how about a GT or UCF. Still in the heart of our recruiting footprint, good cities for our fanbase (where many reside and easy for the rest of us to visit) and they should be able to pay fairly well, or maybe we subsidize a less than UGA type payday with a 2-for-1 or some other creative scheduling arrangement. In many ways I'd prefer to take $650-$750 from a GT type to visit and have an increased likelihood of coming away with a W, at least from time-to-time.

Patience Grasshoppers. Some of those games will probably come with time. We can already see a huge improvement in scheduling. I was at UGA game last year and will try to make the one in 2017 if I can. I don't mind us playing one strong team per year for next few years. As we improve it will provide a good barometer of how we stack up against the cream of the crop while we take control over our own backyard (Sun Belt Conference and rest of G5). I look for App to make a strong showing at UGA in '17.

The non-conference scheduling plan for App State is to play one big road money game, one G5 home game, one G5 road game, and one FCS home game. The G5 games are under a 2-game arrangement (home and away). Other G5 teams play multiple BCS teams. Since App State only plays one BCS game, we need to make it count financially. Thus, our current matchups include schools such as Michigan, Clemson and Georgia. Financially, we will target schools which will guarantee $900,000 - $1 million. Thus, schools such as Tennessee, Alabama, Florida St, South Carolina, etc will also be on our short list. Schools such as NC State and Ga Tech are less likely opponents for us since their games generate significantly less revenue and thus, offer lower payouts. While it would be fun to play NC State on the road, I appreciate the importance we place on 6 home games. I also like playing 2 non-conference games each year against sister conference teams (G5).

Playing big time teams not only provides a financial boost for the program but it gives our players a chance to compete against players that have perceived NFL talent. A good individual effort against top talent helps elevate draft status.

While it is true that playing those top-name teams will bring in that 1 Million dollar payday. I would think that we could get a game against a lower tier SEC team (Miss St, Vandy, Kentucky) and get 750,000 or more and these games would be better quality games for App to play and have a decent chance of winning. In the future I hope we get more lower tier P5 teams and higher tier home and home series with Go5 teams. Example of a schedule would be
at Kentucky
vs. Marshall (home and home)
at ECU (Home and home)
vs. FCS school

I like the last idea, of going to UK for a game, but I doubt they would pay more than $500k for us to come to town. The payday is based in part on how many seats they can sell tickets for the home game. Michigan, Tennessee, LSU, Texas all have behemoth stadiums. I would think home and homes with Duke, Wake, etc is a better likelihood since they would get the home game, and could be an easy travel game for their fans too.

GaSo has an interesting strategy, in that they gave up a home game this year, but have a payday in Atlanta, where their biggest alumni/fan base lives. If we did something like that in Charlotte or Raleigh for our 6th "home game" our fans would still show up in droves! I realize the economic impact to Boone would be significant, but I would even be willing to do a 2 for 1 deal with Duke to get them up the mountain! Spread it out over 9 years and it could work.

Also, it looks like UNC has a lot of scheduling work to do over the next 10 years...

It would be great to get a ACC team to "THE ROCK". But I have a feeling it would be Wake Forest if and when we are able to. I am sure we could get Wake since some of the other SBC teams have done home and home series with Wake. Duke IDK, might be an option if they fall back to reality and don't win like last year again. But I would think a Home and Home with ECU, or UCF, or Houston would be just as big a game as Wake or Duke. I would think that App should be able to get some Home and Home scheduled against the AAC.

I like the idea of APP playing UCF, USF and maybe the schools in Miami. I am all for games in Florida.

I had mentioned in a earlier post that I would like to see App play Kentucky and someone posted that the did not think that Kentucky would pay App more than 500,000. Now that may be true but ULL just made a deal with Kentucky to play next year for ULL's "Money Game". See link below I don't know what the amount is but I would think that if you were only going to play one game called you "money game" then it would be more that 500,000. Just my opinion.

I would jump all over a 2-for-1 with Wake or Duke. Would be a total win-win for App - get an ACC team in Boone, and get two road games in an area local to thousands of alumni. Might require a little creativity to still get six home games a year, but App needs to be willing to be flexible and creative in order to land appealing games like this.

The link below is a blog site which reports Kentucky's nonconference game guarantee amounts for 2014. The amounts reported are as follows:

UT-Martin - $410,000
Ohio University - $650,000
UL-Monroe - $1,000,000

The article states that UK paid only $1m total for its 2 nonconference guarantees in 2013.

The blog also reports that ULM get 5,000 tickets to sell. It's not clear if they are assessed for unsold tickets.

I believe it's hit or miss regarding payouts with BCS schools which don't pack in 80k plus fans. I guess that it's possible for App State to schedule Kentucky and meet its revenue target.
