I don't like Luke Bryan but he gives back to his Alma Mater. This is not the first time he has done this. I haven't seen hide nor hair of Church since he hit it big.

Yes, it'd be nice if we were able to see Eric in Boone more often, but does he really "owe" us anything?appbio91 wrote:http://wjcl.com/2014/09/23/luke-bryan-t ... holarship/

He recorded a football intro for us but y'all would rather have a clip from a Nick Cage movie.

I agree. I've never believed in that idea that you "owe" your university. All of us paid our dues through tuition and other fees. As far as I see it when you graduate you are even with the school. They provided you a great service and you paid for that great service. Anything beyond that is just a person being generous and wanting to give to the future generations. Whether the person becomes famous or not is a moot point.

I don't owe App anything either but I have been giving back for 20+ years. My daughter is the beneficiary of the giving by generous Alumi currently. I personally don't care if EC ever gives a thin cent to App. Just making the point that Luke Bryan cares about his University and shows it in ways other than an add for himself on a jumbotron.

That's because a lot of people admonished the PTB that they remove his "Welcome to the Rock" pregame intro video in favor of a Scottish actor who thinks football means "no hands."appbio91 wrote:http://wjcl.com/2014/09/23/luke-bryan-t ... holarship/

Re: Eric Church > Luke Bryan
We've got two alumni with current top ten hits on the billboard country charts, Luke Bryan and Cole Swindell and both rep Georgia Southern (though one (Cole)much more than the other (Luke)). http://www.billboard.com/charts/country-songs
Yet another thing we have twice as many of as you.
But I will admit, Church is more my speed.

Amen. I love the publicity that EC gives App State for the most part but country is not my thing.ASUPATCH wrote:Wait are those both country singers? Nothing to see hear people......move on.
Also, I've seen a picture of Eric Church in UNC garb at a UNC game. I don't care how famous he is at that point, enjoy the baby blue, EC.

Well, of course you don't owe your alma mater anything after you graduate. I got my diploma; screw anybody else who is trying to earn one.

Re: Eric Church > Luke Bryan
Since you prefer Nick Cage movies to App alums, maybe we can get this guy to do a part of the intro video at some point. Football > Soccer. America > Scotland.APPARJ wrote:Sean Connery > Eric Church.ASUMountaineer wrote:That's because a lot of people admonished the PTB that they remove his "Welcome to the Rock" pregame intro video in favor of a Scottish actor who thinks football means "no hands."appbio91 wrote:http://wjcl.com/2014/09/23/luke-bryan-t ... holarship/

Sean Connery = James Bond to me and everyone knows him - sorry but I wouldn't recognize Eric Church if he walked up to me - glad he is an APP grad however ---

That's great and all, but he's not even American. I don't mind Connery's "Welcome to the Rock," but I much prefer having a famous alum do it than the ol' Scot.WVAPPeer wrote:Sean Connery = James Bond to me and everyone knows him - sorry but I wouldn't recognize Eric Church if he walked up to me - glad he is an APP grad however ---

Re: Eric Church > Luke Bryan
My problem with the Eric Church 'Welcome to The Rock' was that you couldn't even understand what he said. They tried to do the cool techno stutter thing (old fart here not knowing how to describe it).
