Does anyone really want to enlighten us all about everything that has transpired over the past year or so? It seems that people post bits and pieces and it would be interesting to put all of the pieces to the puzzle. Feel free to chime in and remember at the end of the day Give Your All for Appalachian regardless of the troubles going on.

Charlie Cobb resigned as our Director of Athletics on 8/14/14. It was all kind of a blur to me before that event.

Everything seems to have started to take a turn for the worse when the terrible basketball hire happened...the name we won't speak of was hired with one year of assistant experience.

Volleyball, men's and women's soccer appear to be off to better starts.

Football is improved but with the step up in competition it may be difficult to see.

Men's basketball only has one direction it can go.

No news on the AD search from my sources.

It all started with the decision to go FBS.
New Chancellor, New Coaches, AD doing all the dirty work, AD resigns, AD department in total turnover. ... things are a changing and it will take another year to settle down.

The Capel fiasco that could have been easily prevented, not keeping Moore for 1 additional season all add into the mess that has become. It is sad that Jay Sutton was so frustrated that he left.

Moore was not fired too early.

Granted, when he was fired, it was in terrible taste and disrespectful...

Agree with timing and how disrespectful it was but would another year have altered much? Also, still baffled as to how the basketball program was ruined because of CC not following through with proposed incentives and improvements to MBB and to think he would never even have he to hire a new coach because he would have still had Buzz and company.

Within the last few weeks. Is at Georgia State now.

No truth to that saying he went to Ga State. Jay Sutton took the director job at the Yadkin County YMCA. Apparently a female in the athletic department got a raise over both he and DJ and that was the last straw. Satterfield told Beasely we need to find $$ to keep him and was told their wasn't any even though Doug Justice just left to be with his pal CC at Ga State.

You are going to believe what you want to believe but to answer your question, yes. One more year with Moore would have put us more behind. The only way it wouldn't is if CC had told him you can keep the title of Head Coach, stand on the sidelines and look engaged, but you have zero power when it comes to staffing, recruiting, or play calling. I doubt that would have sat well with Moore or the actual Head Coach that would have been named behind closed doors. Moore was not fired. He was told he had one more year and that his contract would not be renewed. Get over it already. Coach Moore is a great man and he was a great coach but the bottom line is that he had lost control of the program and did not want to acknowledge it. The frustration on this board over the current status of our football team is a direct reflection of where we are versus Georgia Southern. For us to be where Georgia Southern is now then Moore should have been gone after the Vilanova game.

Appalachian athletics is moving forward. Unfortunately, the forward movement must endure the weight of a substantial division among App faithful. Read this board everyday and it will never fail that someone will bring up FCS/FBS, Jerry Moore, Charlie Cobb, Ken Peacock, etc.; all of these being past tense subjects. See? I've done it myself. So, here goes my position:

1. In all facets of life, if you are sitting still, you are falling behind.

2. Charlie Cobb: Regardless of his performance, good or bad, ten years is enough in any position. Effective leaders are effective for a finite period of time. See the US Congress for an example.

3. FCS/FBS: I became 100% FBS after my trip to Furman last year. I was stunned by the lack of support for a program that was once in the upper echelon of 1-AA/FCS as well as owning us for years. There were more fans at the local high school game the previous night.

4. Jerry Moore: I am going to make two wishes. First, I wish Jerry Moore would use this Saturday to publicly display support for Scott Satterfield, his staff and the players. Second, I wish Jerry Moore would privately go to Scott Satterfield and offer his expertise, presence, advice, mentoring, help. If nothing else, a pregame speech, a sideline visit, something to make the past a positive momentum for the future.

5. Ken Peacock was awesome. The state of Appalachian as a whole now rests with someone else. I am, for now, in support of the new chancellor. So far, however, all I have seen is political correctness. I hope that works to the benefit of Appalachian.

As to number 4, I agree, but at the same time, I think Jerry Moore owes us nothing.

I meant your doom and gloom on how our record would have been had Coach Moore have stayed. I think our record would have been better but the control issues would have remained. Just my opinion not a pretense of a state of fact. Sorry for the snippy comment in the prior post but I admit I get a little to o defensive about Coach Moore.

As to #3. That was a sad crowd like most of the SoCon schools. Seems like there are App fans at the away games than the home team's crowd. WE HAVE BEEN LUCKY TO KEEP 25,000+ FANS. You know the football players like it. I know we all do.
As to #4. I'm sure that will happen now. CC is gone and the door is probably open.
As to #5. The best chancellor any university has ever had, IMO. It was time for him to step down due to his health problems. He can now enjoy his family, same with Coach Moore.
