Earlier in the season the list was more tongue in cheek with some good teams on it. He has settled in with teams that probably truly suck. We do not belong here regardless of the numbers.

Yeah I would say you are right - none of these teams could play with Michigan in the season opener and GaSo is #1 in the SB - the loss at SoMiss is the one which has us in the rankings ---

A Southern Miss team that still has more FBS experience and schollies than App does. These "experts" slay me.

If anything, they should busting USM's chops.

Amen. And fans don't talk about how we let off the gas when we had a big lead or should have won by more. Or left the starters in too long and risked injury to key players.

We may deserve to be on the list but when a NC "resident" refers to us as "Appy State" all credibility is lost.

Really, who the heck even says that? The first time I heard it was a few years back from a Princeton grad. I just assumed he was a nerd. Was it more common in the past? I know before Legends was Legends it was called Happy's when I was in school. But that is the closest I have seen from the inside.

Yep - just this football season some people I know (who live outside of NC) have referred to it as APPY --- we just need to educated the masses one by one ---

Yes, Appy has been around for some time. I remember the term being used when I was in school in the late 60s and early 70s. I still have friends (in VA) who call us by that moniker and they aren't doing it maliciously. I know it bugs some but I'm not bothered by those that use it if they aren't intending to demean.
I do think the more we use App State as our reference, people may eventually move away from Appy.

I agree with HapApp. Most don't do it maliously. The baseball Rookie Farm League with several ET/Va/NC teams in it is affectionately referred to as the "Appy League". There's a Town of Appalachia in the coal fields of SWVa. Their traditional powerhouse football teams were referenced in local news as Appy. Having said that, if we don't like it I think we should tell folks so politely. I sent an email to. Richmond reporter telling him politely the Appy moniker wasn't viewed positively by the school and fans. He replied, said he had no idea, and said he would not do it again. And we see other references. Cincy comes to mind. Not sure if they react the way we do. Anyway. GO APP!

I have always hated "Appy" as well, however, I remember when I was in school seeing one of the players in class wearing an "Appy State Football" shirt. So I guess it's not just outsiders.

It was before my time, but DG once told me that Appy was pretty neutral, until the Marshall press corps started to use it as a derogatory term toward us. I've never liked it.
