Troy Game

Unread post by Atlanta Trojan » Sun Oct 12, 2014 4:05 pm

Evening Mountaineers. Looking forward to a good weekend of football coming up. Just dropping by to see if any of you guys plan to make the game and would like restaurant selections and such? Wouldnt mind tailgating with some App people.

Both our programs are in a bit of a struggle so this weekends game might be a good one. Hope anyone who comes has a safe travel and a injury free game, cause lord knows either of us cant afford any of that.

Btw...Will you guys be bringing any type of band? I noticed App Had a band at the GS game. Didnt know if your school travels your band a lot or not.

Troy takes at minimum the pep band to every away game (except idaho  )

Thanks for stopping by. I had hoped to make the Troy game since I spent many childhood summer days on Lake Martin either at camp or at grandaddy's cabin and wanted to visit there while I was "in the neighborhood". My dad also did a fair amount of deer hunting around Troy (property owned by Ed Leigh McMillan?????). All those memories are decades old now and still just as sweet as the day they were made.

Alas, the finances just aren't there this year. I could only swing one away game, so I decided on Michigan.

Hopefully, both teams will play well enough to make for an enjoyable game.

My guess would be that no band will come. While I wish we took a pep band to every game, that's just not how we do. :(

Sorry you cant make it. I know how money goes!

I was most excited to see App added to the SBC. I think our two schools have a lot in common. I def plan to make my way up to Boone next year.

Troy might be the only team struggling more than we are. Despite the abysmal season thus far, this is a very winnable game. Hopefully the offense continues to click and the coaching staff really harps our our major shortcomings: defense and special teams. Our young team is talented, it just hasn't come together.

All that said I predict we miss a field goal as time expires to lose the game.

The good news, if there is any, we are only 0-1 in Belt. Maybe we can get it together starting this week.

I plan to come to the game from ATL and bring a few ATL Apps with me if they haven't given up as I know they have also made it up the mountain the last couple of weeks and the travel does get old when you lose.

What is the parking/tailgate situation for visitors coming to Troy??

If you get there 2-3 hours before the game theres several free places on campus to park. Next to "Hawkins" building theres a small parking lot I always park in. Its a big 3/4 Story tall building on campus. Hard for me to actually tell you where stuff is when you have never been on campus lol.

Tailgating will likely be Sparse. a 1-5 start to the season will do that to ya. But there will be people tailgating all around the football stadium for sure which the football stadium is at the enterance to the University, you cant miss it.

YOU MUST EAT AT HOOKS BBQ if you like BBQ. its really good. Just throwing that out there.

I will also be going down to the game from Atlanta area. its about a 2.5-3 hour drive depending on which part of Atlanta your in. Let me know if you need anything at all.

Of course Troy starts getting it together right before they play us just like USA did. Oh well, when it rains it pours I guess. Thanks for stopping in. Somebody has to win this one.

Saturday seemed really promising I won't lie. Reminded me of great days back when... But I'll hold out my optimism for a few more games. Hopin we have turned that corner.

I guess I was mentally blocking out the USA loss

Thanks for the info. I went to Troy for a 1AA playoff games years ago but don't remember much about Troy and things have certainly grown over the years. The good news is that one would assume that one of the teams has to win on Saturday.

Atlanta Trojan, thanks for the visit and invitation, a great way to start an eastern rivalry. In 1977 I spent a year at Fort McClellan going to school. Many of my peers took courses offered by Troy. I truly enjoyed my time in Alabama. The local folks were very kind and the surroundings, absolutely beautiful. I won't be able to make it to the game this time, but this summer I plan to retire (for the second time), and my wife and I can't wait to visit all of our SBC schools. Good luck for this Saturday and hope for no injuries. GO APP!

They are playing better...probably because their long-time head coach announced his retirement a week prior to Saturday's game, and his players are determined to send him out the right way. It would have been nice if we had had that opportunity.

Troy is one of the schools I always looked to as an example for App to move up. Unfortunately we are both having tough years right now. I hope to make it down to see a game when we are both playing better!
