Upshaw to start over Cox

Fumblitis will get the best of of them. McGowen is out for the season and we now have 9 freshman starters and 17 on the two deep. So much for the argument SS is saving players for the future or holding back young talent.

For all the talk about how poor the talent level is on the team, it's hard to win when the guy who's supposed to be your best player is a turnover machine. Hope he gets it turned around - we need him.

I think he will get it together. Was it Cox that helped us tear up Stink last year? I wonder how many of the younguns have lost the "head" game.

This is a defining moment in Cox's college career. He is no longer a starter, not because he lacks talent but because he has been careless with the football. I suspect he'll get plenty of opportunities to make amends. I sure hope he succeeds ... for his sake and ours.

I believe Cox will be fine. He just needs to go to the John Settle school of ball security. Carry a ball around campus all the time.

Starting in place of McGowan is true freshman Eric Boggs. That's a big spot to step into halfway through the season.

Upshaw is probably the hardest working player on the roster. Glad he's getting a chance to be "The Man".

And, have people jump out at any given time and try to strip the ball out of his hands. That should keep him on his toes, like Kato used to do to Peter Sellers:

Like Jimmy Buffett states, "if we could not laugh we would all go insane", I guess it's time for us all to take a time-out, get a breath of fresh air, laugh a little, and get back in the game. Go Apps!!

From what I have seen Cox has what I would call "effort" fumbles. Still, you can't put the ball on the ground. I was surprised when he was put back in last week. I was even more surprised when he carried the ball in OT, but he made a hard run and got good yardage. He ran like a man who wanted to win the game. I think if Satterfield would have continued to give it to him in OT we would have won the game.

I would like to know what happened to all the "wheel routes" App used to run to Cox (and earlier to Steven Miller) that we a big part of the offense. Cox is terrific in space and Upshaw and Sumler should be excellent in that regard too.

Upshaw had a nice game v. Liberty and he ran with conviction. My only concern is that he doesn't look to cut up the field on the sweep. He tends to continue to run towards the sideline and runs out of real estate. It seemed to me that there were times when there was yardage to be gained if he had cut back toward the goal instead of getting strung out towards the side line.

Yes, and I thought we were supposed to see some 2-back sets. What happened with that?

From what I've seen, the only weakness in Cox' game is his carelessness with the ball. He has a natural ability to find gaps and gain yards where other RBs would just be stopped. I shudder to think where we'd be without him last year but Terrence runs like a man possessed which is a great change of pace from Cox' style.

Go get'em, Terrence!
