Re: IT'S WAKE FOREST.... 2017
To all: When do you think the seeds of this home-and-home were sown? Before Cobb left or after? I'm guessing after, but it's merely a guess.
Another point, I'm feeling a lot better about our athletic leadership these days. Let's see, since Beasley took over we have, 1) a seemingly quality hire in women's basketball; 2) outstanding scheduling news in football (Tennessee, Georgia); 3) a drop-dead gorgeous floor for the basketball teams; and 4) a power conference team coming to Kidd Brewer that is sure to energize our fan base.

just simply the right thing to do. Large crowds, sell outs, local business flourish on game day, very low travel costs for universities and fans, student athletes do NOT miss any classes. Can't imagine why season ticket sales will not soon rise and become the hot ticket! And all of our current Freshman's senior year - what great timing!

I guess if you read between the lines of this quote from our news release, it answers my question:AppGrad78 wrote:To all: When do you think the seeds of this home-and-home were sown? Before Cobb left or after? I'm guessing after, but it's merely a guess.
“I’d like to thank Wake Forest athletics director Ron Wellman, senior associate athletics director Mike Buddie and head coach Dave Clawson for working with us to make this series happen,” Beasley continued. “I’d also like to thank head coach Scott Satterfield, former associate athletics director Jay Sutton and Mike Flynn from our staff for their roles in putting this together as well. It was truly a team effort.”

So this Vega fellow, who reserves the right to say he told us so... Is it proper to rub his nose in this sort of thing?

The seeds were planted well before Cobb left.
Beasley did close the deal though. So some credit has to go to both.
78 who do you want to be the new AD, you seem to be pushing for Beas?

I do remember a few posters that said App would NEVER get a P5 program to Boone. I thought it would be year 5 or 6. It will be year 4.

You forgot one. Rick was actually responsible for our men's coach also.

Re: IT'S WAKE FOREST.... 2017
I'm not pushing Beasley, just trying to draw attention to what I see as improvement in our leadership. Unfortunately, Cobb didn't set the bar very high. I'm not close enough to Beasley or any other potential candidate to draw an informed opinion.Saint3333 wrote:The seeds were planted well before Cobb left.

Re: IT'S WAKE FOREST.... 2017
The story I heard is that Bob McKillop is the one most responsible for our men's basketball hire. Cobb was leaning heavily toward Bobby Lutz and after Lutz bailed, Cobb didn't have a backup plan until McKillop practically demanded that he give consideration to Fox.bcoach wrote:AppGrad78

Re: IT'S WAKE FOREST.... 2017
Cobb screwed up the Capel hire and let the Darsey situation go on too long, but a lot of good things happened on his watch.
I'm seeing a couple of posters stretch to give credit to Beas on the Wake game and Fox hire. Beas played a part in both, but let's not throw the outgoing AD under the bus and the part he played in these as well.
Beas is a better public speaker than Cobb, I enjoyed his comments during one of the ESPN3 games.
I will say I'm somewhat bias as I've spent time with both guys the last 10 years, I just want to make sure both are given their due credit on this. And even more so with Jay Sutton, that man gave his ALL for App during his time here and deserves probably more credit than anyone on the schedule.

This Cobb fellow must have been a BAD MAN even when things seem to have gone right he gets hammered.

You make very good points, particularly the one about Jay Sutton.Saint3333 wrote:Cobb screwed up the Capel hire and let the Darsey situation go on too long, but a lot of good things happened on his watch.

The overriding question I have is, would the home-and-home with Wake Forest have materialized if Cobb were still our AD? I doubt anyone on this board can answer that with certainty. I know I can't.

Re: IT'S WAKE FOREST.... 2017
I have no reason to believe it would not have. I was told before the season by more than one "insider" we had a deal in principal with an ACC school, the dates were the only pending item.
Charlie, Rick and Jay all deserve credit for this.
