Chisholm
Game time decision tomorrow according to DJ on around the mtn.
I would say hold him out to be sure to heal, but this game may decide the season in many ways, so play him if he's ok.

Re: Chisholm
My preference is for him to be held out with injury for the remainder of the year and apply for a medical hardship and comeback next year. After rededicating himself to school and the team, it really is unfortunate that he got hurt in the first game of his senior season.

Re: Chisholm
Someone else can correct me, but I don't think Chisholm has any extra eligibility available.

Re: Chisholm
Hence why I said hold him out with injury and apply for a MEDICAL HARDSHIP. Similar to what ECU did for P. Pinkney back in 2009. I think PP was 32
when he was under center against App. However, I'm not sure Chisholm meets the standards to receive a hardship so my idea is based purely on hopes and dreams.
"The medical hardship waiver can be requested to the appropriate conference or to the NCAA if the institution is an independent. The following situation must be met per NCAA rules: a) the incapacitating injury or illness occurs either during the senior year of high school or during one of the four seasons of intercollegiate competition, b) the injury or illness occurs prior to the first half of the playing season that concludes with the NCAA Championship in that sport, and c) the student-athlete has not participated in more than two contests or 20% of the scheduled contests (whichever is greater).
A similar request is to waive the five-year period of eligibility and extend a sixth year. This requires two out of five years of circumstances beyond the control of the student-athlete. An incapacitating medical circumstance would be one example of a qualifying condition. A voluntary redshirt year would not."

Re: Chisholm
I say play him if possible. This is a crucial game, and Chisholm does not have much to lose at this point considering this is his final year. If he sits out and we lose, the season may turn into a "what could have been" scenario. Of course he could come back and reinjure himself and miss the entire season as well. Football is a violent sport, and a player's safety is never guaranteed even if they are healthy.

Re: Chisholm
Just a hunch but I expect to see him out there in a limited capacity tomorrow. As a senior captain and team leader, I think the emotional boost he can provide is as important as anything. Seeing your teammate fight to get back on the field a few weeks earlier than expected is the kind of thing that a team can rally around.
I think Miller carries the load again with a small dose of Chisholm, with Rod taking over as the primary back against Coastal. Just a gut instinct but that is how I see it playing out.
We need him out there, it really is almost do or die. Beat Chatty!

Re: Chisholm
I"ve been pleased with what I've seen of Frazier running the ball. I'd like to see more of him, especially on short yardage plays. I'm guessing there must be something I'm not seeing that's not allowing him to play more than he is.

If he is in any shape to play, I say play him. We need all the help we can get. This is a crucial game. Ultimately, I would defer the decision to Rod himself. It's his body, his career and his risk to take.

Re: Chisholm
While we're on the subject of lineup modifications, David Jackson mentioned on Mountaineer Talk last night that redshirt freshman Henry Barnes is likely to see increased playing time at safety. Based on the little bit I've seen of him during Fan Fest and brief in-game appearances, I see that as a positive development.

I would say anyone at Safety other than Blalock. I'm 47 and I think I could cover receivers better than he can.

Re: Chisholm
I would love to see Chisholm play, but ONLY if he is 100%. If he is anything less than that, with this being a HAND injury, I'm really concerned about the risk of turnovers...which could be the difference in the game. I'm sure these decisions are never easy, and I don't envy the coaches having to make them every week.
Regarding Barnes getting increased time at safety, that's a great move (I think). I really like PB but he just isn't fast enough to carry the load full time.

Re: Chisholm
I'd like to see Holloway help run/catch the ball. He needs experience, if he is going to be the main man next season. I don't like the idea of being totally green in the backfield, unless there is a JUCO waiting in the wings?

Re: Chisholm
Moonshine, medical redshirts are not easy to get. I don't think Chisholm would get a medical redshirt due to his type of hand injury (generally out 4 weeks). If he is able to play this season, I'm sure he will want to be on the field instead of praying for a redshirt after the season. The reports I hear are that he will be able to play either tomorrow or next week. Hopefully so - this team would get a boost from his leadership on the field.

Re: Chisholm
I'm assuming he's in a cast, correct? That should protect him some, but my question is can he hold onto the ball? Won't do us much good if he runs great but puts the ball on the ground. Which hand is it?

Re: Chisholm
He wasn't in a cast this past week on the sidelines.
Halloway is being redshirted, clear he won't be used this year at all.

Re: Chisholm
You are saying the powers have spoken? However, I Don't agree with it though. Look no further than the example of Chisolm, who has had 5 years to play 4 seasons and is graduating anf hasn't played 1 yet. To be sure we could recruit depth each year behind Halloway?biggie wrote:He wasn't in a cast this past week on the sidelines.

Is there a back I'm missing who will have any experience for next season? Next year Chisolm gone, Miller gone. JJ a senior, btw who backs up JJ? That is going to be really tough for APP, imo.
Next season should injuries happen in our backfield, the coaches may have to come to the MMB looking for some here that have eligibility left?
Maybe Halloway just isn't really ready to contribute???
Somebody bring me up to speed on what's actually happening.

Re: Chisholm
It's pretty obvious what's happening. The coaching staff -- justifiably so, in my opinion -- have decided to redshirt Holloway. It makes no sense to burn a year of eligibility when he would be a third-string running back behind Chisholm and Miller. Chisholm likely will be back tomorrow or next Saturday. If either Chisholm or Miller go down with a season-ending injury (God forbid), then Holloway's status might change. If not, then don't expect to see Holloway use up a perfectly good year of eligibility because he "needs experience" at mop-up time.

Re: Chisholm
I'm certainly not the coach, and see that angle, now. Hope we stay healthy and actually see some mop up time this season. Most of me doesn't like the tons of inexperience for the 2013 campaign if can only put one healthy go to ball carrier on the field this year. If Chisolm comes back, then it's moot. We haven't seemed to lean on Frazier, yet, which puts the doubt in my mind for any production next season.AppGrad78 wrote:It's pretty obvious what's happening.
