How about a G5 playoff

Unread post by bigdaddyg » Fri Nov 14, 2014 10:00 am

Anyone forsee a G5 playoff model? Take the the top 4 from the G5, play in 2 minor bowls and then a championship game? Marshall at 9-0 in only ranked about 20th in the AP. Noboby in the G5 will ever have a strength of schedule good enough to vault into the BCS playoff format. Wouldn't a 4 (or even better 8) team playoff be intriguing? Situated at the right time the TV ratings might not be too bad and it would add a level of excitement to conferences who don't have a prayer to play for the big one. I just know how exciting the FCS playoffs were.

If the Go5 starts a playoff, it will only give the P5 the fuel they need to break away. We'd basically be back in FCS all over again. I want to see how all the money really shakes out from the current format and how it affects all the schools.

I think ECU would be in the playoff conversation had they beaten USC, Temple, and Cinci. Marsha's schedule is a joke.

Yeah, there are G5 teams in the past that would have had a chance to make a 4-team playoff. Moreover, I think it's only a matter of time until they expand it to at least 8 teams.

Beyond that, ask yourself, if App were in Marshall's position, would a G5 playoff really be more appealing than the chance to go to a New Year's 6 bowl game and play an elite P5 program?
