Would someone please explain what a Rugby punt in American football is? Is it simply a type of pooch punt or does it have to do with the angle the ball is held prior to kicking.

It is when the punter moves (runs) several yards to his right (right-footed kicker) and the ball is kicked while he is moving and more from the side - it is usually low and meant to stay near the sideline to cut down the chance of a return - it usually bounces end over end so ideally it would keep bouncing and not allow a runback ---

I really don't like it. Not second guessing Satterfield, I am sure there was a reason to implement this style especially when we are pushed back.

Rugby punts are generally a good option for slower to average speed teams as the ball is played to run out down the field. When playing teams with more speed it is often a better idea to include more hang time as their speed takes away the advantage of the rugby punt.
In theory the rugby punt is good to mix in occasionally as it keeps the defenses on their heels and gives the option of a trick play....also by rolling out it is suppose to cancel out the lack of hang time.

The rugby kick is supposed to be a directional kick....not the middle of the field. it is never to be taken inside your 40. The purpose of the kick is to bounce erratically making it hard for the receiver to pick up and should always have a forward roll. The "hang time" is much less and can backfire as we have seen.

it was implemented because we were getting punts blocked early on in the season
