Just for kicks, let's say we win out, go 7-5 and take third in the SB. What bowl would we land in? Just wondering.

You know we aren't bowl eligible this year, right? We can apply for a waiver if we get really lucky and there aren't enough 6-6 teams to fill the bowls and even then it isn't guaranteeed and I'm sure we would be picked after Stinkbigdaddyg wrote:Just for kicks, let's say we win out, go 7-5 and take third in the SB. Yes, that's why I threw in "just for kicks". Probably should have added, if we were eligible. That being said, "if" we were eligible, I wonder what bowl we might be looking at. Another trip to La?
Re: Ark St v Texas St.
To be fair - I think our game did a lot to make them ripe for the picking by Texas State. We ran 86 plays, and kept their D on the field for 40 minutes...they then had to turn around and play another run oriented team, on the road, on short rest.Saint3333 wrote:I agree Hap they look bad. The only scored when we set them up with a short field due to poor special teams play or in prevent d last week.
I think ULM was better than Ark St. watching Ark St. the last two weeks.
It was a very bad spot for them...which is why Texas State +6 was an easy play for me!
Re: Ark St v Texas St.
If Lafayette is eligble, they pretty much have The New Orleans Bowl locked in...they bring about 40,000 fans to that game. Oddly - more than their average attendance at home!bigdaddyg wrote:Yes, that's why I threw in "just for kicks". Probably should have added, if we were eligible. If we went this year, it would be either to the bowl in Mobile (not a bad choice...it's like Charleston without a good Public Relations Team), or Montgomery. Not great - but a short drive for the Atlanta based Apps.

Re: Ark St v Texas St.
Here is a question about future bowls. If the Sun belt has 4 options in the future and let's say 5 teams are 6+ wins , do the bowls have to take the teams in the order they finished or can they select the best team for their bowl? I am worried about this because the bowl tie ins seem to be in Louisiana and Alabama. So a 6-6 So Alabama team may get the bowl in Mobile vs a 8-4 App team? Isn't that what sort of happened to an 8-4 WKU team last year?

Gotta remember that App beat Ark St as a road team after a long trip. Ark St was on the road last night. Both App and TxSt are trending upward and ArkSt is trending down. Also remember TxSt outplayed GaSo last weekend but 4 turnovers including a pick-6 killed them.

Going to be very interesting starting next year. I fully believe that we will battle for the title but will bowl in LA and that region want App who might only bring 5K in fans? Then again I have no idea how we will travel to a bowl.

They did beat USA 45-10 the week before we played them. I'm not sure what happened since then, but they certainly don't look to be 35 points better than the Jags at this point.hapapp wrote:Got to wonder how good Ark State really is at this point.
When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

USA had their quarterback get hurt and several other key players. One gruesomely broke his leg in the Ark State game.

Young team that has gone on the road and dominated two conference opponents in our first year in FBS. That is good enough for me.

You are correct, and I think it's an issue the Sun Belt needs to address in future years. As someone already pointed out, the New Orleans Bowl is probably going to pick ULL every year they're eligible as long as they keep bringing a big crowd. And as you said, USA has a bowl in their hometown now.bh2oson wrote:Here is a question about future bowls. On the flipside, while it would suck to never get to play in New Orleans, it could benefit us if the Alabama bowls pass us over for closer teams and leave us for the Cure Bowl in Orlando, which I think many would feel is a more appealing holiday destination.
Regardless, I think it helps create some prestige for the conference title if the league champion at least gets to go to a dedicated bowl game. Of course you always want to win anyway, but to me it kind of feels like the league title is almost anticlimactic when you know the league's #1 bowl tie-in is going to pick the same team every year regardless of the standings.

Would USA playing in mobile be all that attractive to local restaurants and hotels that will miss out on revenue from an out of town teams? I would prefer the Cure Bowl as it is in our recruiting footprint and is closer to my house.

Probably not, but I think ticket sales are the first priority. Boise State used to play in that bowl on their home field nearly every year for a while.AppSt94 wrote:Would USA playing in mobile be all that attractive to local restaurants and hotels that will miss out on revenue from an out of town teams? Re: Ark St v Texas St.
I would be happy with the Cure Bowl. Allegiant Air flies from Concord to Orlando now for under $100 round trip so that would make it a quick and affordable trip.
