Sunday Morning QB ---

Unread post by WVAPPeer » Sun Nov 30, 2014 9:39 am

WOW - what a way to end the first season in the SunBelt!!! - I will attempt to confine this post to the most recent game as I am sure there will be others to discuss the season as a whole and what lies ahead ---
1. After Idaho's initial quarter eating drive and score it had to be a kick in their gut for us to cover the same distance with one play and take the lead - the Idaho guys played hard and they have some components for the making of a better team but I never had the feeling at any point yesterday that APP might be in for some trouble ---
2. Dropped passes were the norm in the first half - luckily for us the "Vandals Took The Handles" (get it?) dropped several passes which should have been caught and luckily for Idaho our defenders dropped several passes which should have been caught ---
3. We looked to be playing more zone coverage early on than what we have been doing lately and their young QB was finding receivers in the open spots but again that is not so much a negative on our defense but a positive for their passing combos --- all zone defenses will have open areas - John Law was all over the field and generally the defense played well - more of the bend don't break variety but when the APP offense can put up points in bunches that is not altogether a bad strategy --- We still held them below the yearly average in passing yards --- The Defense has evolved over the last 6-7 weeks into a very solid unit and we are all glad so many of these young men will return !!!
4. Offensively we have turned into a next to impossible unit to stop - the run game is powerful and the passing game can beat an opponent as well --- I must say congrats to Taylor for breaking Armanti's freshman passing yards record and to Marcus for another strong game as he is well on his way to chasing down KRich - of course, not much of this could happen without the blocking of the OL/TE/HBacks - great job by this crew and another hats-off to the receiving corp - this group has evolved into a very solid unit and to be honest I can't remember more than a handful of dropped passes by this group all season - and again we are glad most all of this offensive unit return !!!
5. Special Teams - well I will leave it at this - the staff knows it is an area that needs to be addressed and I have all confidence it will be - Congrats to Bentlee on the 49 yarder - he drilled it straight and would have been good from mid 50s --- I have watched a lot of college football this season and I'm telling you that Special Teams is a problem with many teams, even the very best in the P5 - I'm not sure what this is attributed to - the difference it can make can be highlighted by Florida State - their kicker is just about perfect for the season and just think how many close games they have won --- Our guys will get this taken care of !!!
6. A BIG THANK YOU TO THE SENIORS!!! - I know it had to be bittersweet but to go out in the fashion they did with 6 consecutive wins will be something they, and we, will always remember!!!
7. And congrats to all the coaches - you guys stuck with your plan, didn't panic (in public, at least ), kept the team on track, and then saw the amazing fruits of your labor!!! - This has to be one of the best jobs of coaching nationwide!!!
8. And thanks to all the fans who made the trek up to Boone 6 times and to those who made the "journeys" to all the foreign lands !!! This will have been the first year since 1998 that I didn't see at least one game at The Rock but thanks to the SunBelt for their ESPN tie-in as I got to watch every game, home and away !!!
9. I truly believe their are many good things to come for APP STATE FOOTBALL !!! !!! !!!

Wow, I can't believe the season is over and we won't be reading this for another 279 days. Thanks for doing this. It's been great reading over the season. Reading about the highs and lows of the team or should it be lows and highs. And what a high it was.

Here's to next season.

Good post WV! It feels weird to finish so well and not have a playoff to think about. It was great to see Touchdown Santa in action again.

It's hard to believe the season is over - during the summer I have a neighbor who one day said, "Man, I can't wait until college football starts." - I told him we have a member of MMB who does a countdown from 100 and today he is at "Number 70" - so when I would see him out I would say, "55 days", "39 days", "15 days", etc., down to GAME DAY!!! - and now the season is over - Where did it go??? --- :?

NIce work Dub! This was the game that I was not able to actually see. Want to go back and watch the replay. I was a little concerned when I first saw the 17-15 score. It is amazing to see what this group has become, looking at where they were. I can't say it was a process, I use the word transformation. Just glad it happend and ready to see what 2015 holds! I dare say that we all need to budget extra money next year for a bowl game trip!!

The strong finish should help in recruiting. Recruits had to like what they saw of the Apps the last 6 games and have confidence that this coaching staff will be around for awhile and successful.
