Cramton Bowl Sat., Dec. 20th 9:15 p.m. ET ESPN Buy Tickets

Wondering which Sun Belt Team gets to go over ASU.

Central Michigan or Bowling Green vs Sun Belt #3

Probably Arkansas St.

Texas St. is technically Sun Belt #2 with both GS and App ineligible

Depends on who GoDaddy picks - return trip for A-State or hometown school USA?

I am assuming A-State will land somewhere. Question is whether the odd team out will be USA or Texas State.

Unfortunately it may be Texas State. Mobile likely will pick USA and New Orleans will pick U LA LA. That leaves Arkansas State and Texas State to fight it out for the Montgomery bowl game.

Scary thought that App could go 8-4 in a season and finish top 3 in conference and still not have a bowl game. Benson needs to get more tie-ins for the conference.

Well he already has a fourth starting next year, with a possible fifth in future years. But you are right, it is a little worrisome in that we are at a geographical disadvantage for the top three SBC bowls. While more tie-ins would always be nice, what I'd really like to see is some protection for the top teams not to get passed over for worse teams that are closer to the bowl sites.

I think the Cure Bowl would be happy to take us, and IMO will be a better destination with a more appealing opponent than the Alabama games. But if it comes down to App and Ga. Southern for a spot in that game, we could be in trouble.

East could not agree more. I think priority should go to the teams and where they finish. The top 3 should be protected and locked for a bowl no matter what geography.

Why is the rest of the sunbelt upset about Ga Southern or App getting a bowl slot? I am waiting to hear about GSUs appeal and even Karl Benson said he would be against them knocking off an already eligible team. Didn't the eagles prove they have a better chance of winning than stAte or Tx State?

If the waiver is granted (which I don't think it will be), the Sun Belt is contracted to send their #3 team to the Camelia Bowl. App State finished third.

I don't think that's the case. Could be wrong, but it's ultimately about who will sell tickets. USA will do that more than we will in Montgomery.

I miss the days where bowls went out and scouted teams to make the best game. I hate all these tie ins.

You're right, I misread something. So much info.

Just FYI, I asked someone inside the App program and they said there is no timetable for the decision on their bowl waiver, but it will be this week. It's a completely separate waiver than GaSo's.

By "scouted teams to make the best game," I assume you mean "sent their executives on free vacations all over the country." They still do it, fwiw.

Oh - they absolutely do! That said - it's a bigger boondoggle now than it was because so much of it is decided by tie-ins. The only ones that really had decisions to make were teams picking BCS At-Large spots...and even then they made mistakes. I remember a couple of years ago, the Sugar Bowl, picking a mediocre VT team over a 2 loss K-State because of the misguided notion that VT "Travels well".

They did in the early '00s, but consolation BCS bowls lost their luster to that lot a long time ago. They struggled to sell their tickets to the game, even at a deeply discounted rate.

Meanwhile, K-State ended up in The Cotton Bowl, where they sold out their allotment of tickets, and then some, in about 15 minutes. Smart choice, Sugar Bowl.

Heck, I'd happily max out my credit cards to go see us in the likes of a Sugar Bowl.
