A colleague of mine is working with Rick Beasley to allow for the sale of alcoholic beverages in KBS [and possibly the Holmes Center] for the 2015 campaign. The following Sun Belt schools allow this in some shape or form:

1. Louisiana-Lafayette
2. Louisiana-Monroe
3. Troy
4. Georgia State
5. South Alabama

For any of you who have been to a game at any of these places, or any college stadium that sells booze, how did it work logistically? What did you like, and what would you change about it?

Going beyond actually getting it done (Holmes is an educational facility so that would be really hard), I believe it would be a good thing in the Holmes Center much more than KBS.

And before anyone mentions it, they do sell beer in the Club Level of KBS and the 3333 Club at the Holmes Center. However that's not to the general public

Have it at certain areas or kiosks with trained sellers who ID everyone. Many concession stand workers aren't 21.

It must be a deal that is beneficial to the school (some schools cut terrible deals which cost them money after costs) and have a mix of domestic beers and local craft beers. Cut sales off after the 3rd quarter/ U8 timeout.

It's a way to make money for a program that needs to find ways to make money in the near future.

Went to the UL-Lafayette game and purchased a beer. Logistically, it worked fine. Essentially, the concession stand serving ID'ed those purchasing alcohol and provided an arm bracelet. Honestly, while I was in the stadium I didn't witness anyone that was overly intoxicated.

Could have used that during the Capel days

I went to a Wake game where they had it. There was a little party booth over in the endzone behind the hill up on the concourse. It was roped off and you got an arm band when you walked in and presented ID. Beer was like 8 bucks a pop. Maybe 100 people there throughout the game. You couldn't leave the roped off section with the beer.

Florida State sells beer at the basketball games but not football. I always thought that the reason was that they play basketball in the city's arena which is not owned by FSU. The football stadium is an FSU building.

I enjoyed it.

This would provide a great opportunity to showcase Ivory Tower brews and the booming craft beer culture of the High Country. It would generate a ton of much-needed revenue as well.

I enjoy tailgaiting and having a few. Taking something ( i.e. a mini bottle) into the game certainly isn't a necessity, but is quite common.

Seems like if someone wants a beer or two during the game its better if it is controlled by selling it legally.

I know this is not part of the question but I would really like to see beer sell at the baseball game. Build a beer garden to the side of the stands. Do it like a lot of minor league baseball and summer collegiate. The Forest City Owls and Gastonia Grizzlies both have nice setups. Serve some local beers and some commercial brands. Don't allow beer outside of the beer garden, don't let anyone under 21 into the beer garden, card everyone.

The crowd at baseball games are small enough to be manageable, it would get more students to the games, and it might make baseball not profitable but come close to breaking even.

As for football games I would hate to loose part of the hill which has traditionally been a good family spot for a beer garden. Most schools I know stop selling before the 4th quarter.

I think there is probably a balance that would keep people from getting hammered before coming into the stadium and littering the bathrooms with little bottles.

Maybe only offer it on the visitor side. Do not allow beer outside of the visitor area and have a small standing area to the side where people sitting on the home side can go and drink beer, stand and watch the game, the go back to their seats. This way students who are more interested in drinking sit in balcony seats where the view isn't that great and their cheers aren't that important and students who are not interested in drinking sit in the good seats near the field where their cheers can really make a difference.

I am OK with beer in certain areas...not a fan in the general stadium, cause the spilled beer will piss me off.

I promise you a beer garden would not be filled with students nor is anyone going to get hammered there. I wouldn't spend $8 a Beer while a student. Thats 4 drinks on King street after the game

We went to the ULL game and I was surprised with the beer sell, but also surprised that I could buy three at one time. One for me, and two to the three young alumni behind us for them to share between two as one was the driver (they were driving back right after the game to Raleigh). Found the atmosphere very good as everyone drinking was behaving and enjoy the game - friend and foe. If the beer was located away from the vast concessions, I think it would do well.

Beer at $8 would keep me sober, and maybe even stone cold sober. I am not one to have to have a beer, but I do like the freedom to have one should I desire it.

As has been noted in another thread, the athletic department is losing money. If selling beer in the stadium and other ASU sports venues makes money then I'm all for it. It's not like people are going to be getting more intoxicated with beer sales, in fact, it might reduce the number of drunks by cutting down on the mini bottle problem. Personally speaking, I'm much more likely to over do it with mini bottles than $8 beers. The university should do a thorough analysis of the potential net revenue range, liabilities, etc. and make a decision based on that research.

A group of us from Atlanta went to the Troy game and had some of the $5 beers. They had free standing carts with coolers so they could give it to you ice cold. There were very few people at the Troy game so no waiting in line and it appeared to be one of the more popular concessions as it was really hot that day.

It could be a substantial fund raiser at App games and I would give it a thumbs up.

I can vouch for SpeedKingATL - we all enjoyed the beer concession! Plus - with Troy's paltry attendance, there wasn't much line waiting needed! I just hope we have a few better options than the Rolling Rock I had that day...though it did take me back to my college days when I thought that was as good as it gets!

Some stadiums have "family sections." A couple of alcohol-free sections in areas that are already typically pretty tame would be nice.

Now as far as raising money I have an even better idea. Just donate $8 a game to the Josef club, or $16, or $24

LOL, it's not. The noisy few on here will have a field day. I basically said the same thing and I had one go nutso over it. I don't remember the stupid thing that was said since I didn't pay much attention to that person's wild ramblings.
