I'm being a homer here but,

Marcus Cox > Elijah McGuire

Agree completely - McGuire was invisible against us. I'm guessing he got it because he had decent receiving numbers. Had a huge game on TV vs. Ark State - I'm guessing that helped him getting POTY over Breida as well.

No doubt. Averaged more yards per game than McGuire and that's with knee surgery a couple of weeks before Michigan and being limited in the first couple of games.

I don't think that's a homer vote, I think that's just common sense!

I won't quibble too much w/ McGuire because he had a big advantage in receiving numbers, plus 7.8 ypa is incredible. Though I suspect the two ULL D-linemen who were first-team all conference probably remember Cox pretty well.

And how in the world does the "All Newcomer" team include three QBs without one of them being the conference's freshman of the year?

McGuire had 40 catches for 415 yards to lead the Cajuns. He led the team in rushing and receiving.

Leaving a few of our freshman LBers off the list should be good motivation.

I know he had a lot of receptions for a RB. It certainly could happen. We know Cox had 40+ last year.

But I wonder, was McGuire's high number of receptions the by product of a very ineffective receiving corps? ULL was next to last in pass offense. Could it be because Broadway was under a lot of pressure all season long and had to quickly dump the ball off to a RB? I'm just pulling those ideas from the only time I watched ULL, and that was against us. Both Broadway and McGuire were very ineffective against us.

On the other side of the coin, could Cox's low reception numbers could be a by product of our receiving corp effectively getting open and Lamb's ability to hit them? App was a run first offense, #2 in rushing, #7 in passing, but Lamb was #1 in passing efficiency. Lamb did seem to spread the ball around which reduced Cox's numbers.

Either way, I still think Cox is the SBC's Offensive Player of the Year. And, should have been 1st team All SBC.

Cox's lower receiving numbers this year i think can be attributed to Lamb being more willing to throw vertical and not dump passes off.

we did seem to throw less screen passes this year, which Marcus feasted on last year

We will not be asking our RBs to catch many balls the next few years with the talent we have at WR.
