is this his total salary, or is this just his base salary, and performance bonuses not included?

Base salary. Performance bonuses are at the end of the contract. 10k for an APR above 930, 5k per semester for a 3.0 GPA, 10k for playing a grantee game, 10k for a bowl game, 25k for a Sun Belt title, shared or outright, 50k for making the College Football Playoff (times two if he makes the final) and 50k for being Sun Belt Coach of the Year and/or National Coach of the Year.

I like the vision for the program.

50k for COY seems hefty while 50k for CFP seems low. I like the kickers for GPA and APR.

Related question, does he get any supplemental income from Yosef, Nike, IMG, etc.?

I'm not aware of any supplement above the stated contract that would come from the Yosef Club. Unsure about Nike or IMG.

2 Questions -
1) I assume the assistants have similar incentives?
2) Do assistant contracts increase yearly in a similar fashion to his?
Both of those things would definitely help staff longevity, if so.

Only $50K for making the College Football Playoff (Final 4)? We should have an incentive to double his salary if that happens! As well as a succession plan for backfilling his job when he is snatched up by a P5!

If we make the college football playoffs he should get $1,000,000, a new Lincoln, a new house. He should then be chained to a very large rock so that every school in the SEC , ACC, and Big ten can't drag him out of here.

Isn't it interesting how things have changed? A couple of months ago some folks were discussing whether he should be fired; now, folks are worried about keeping him.

What's surprising to me with the performance incentives is that he gets a bonus for making the playoff but not for making a non-playoff New Year's 6 bowl, which would seem to be a much more attainable goal.
Overall, though, if this program takes off like a lot of us think and hope it can over the next couple of years, we're going to need to come up with a lot more money for SS and his staff, or someone else will do it for us.

agree 100%, I know money is tight, but he is still one of the most underpaid coaches in the FBS, and that even if he hits his bonuses. I know he loves Boone, but that will only take you so far, eventually, he will grow tired of watching other coaches, making alot more, doing alot less. I also wonder about the Yosef club supplementing his contract, I know this is done at alot of other schools. We will be fine thru next year, but if he wins the SBC next year, they better come up with the money or he might be gone.

Nice to see he got a raise, but I have to say compared to others in the Sun Belt, he's still underpaid. The incentives are a nice add on but his base should be higher. I'm also very concerned about some of the pay our assistants are receiving. Any news on increases for them, especially Ledford?
I assume, if we actually do win the Sun Belt next year, which could legitimately happen, we will give him a bigger raise than is indicated here. I mean, say we go undefeated........excuse the pause I just got a shiver,, what would he then be worth on the open market and how would we keep him?
Crazy talk I know but....

The Old Ball Coach (Spurrier) used to get an incentive bonus for 50% of his players graduating. 50%!

I do not like the contract buyout if SS were to leave. It is 1 years salary. We need to make it such that we are rewarded if another school hires him away. We were burned in basketball several years ago by not having this written in our favor.
Perhaps we are "buying" time to see if he is successful. Nonetheless, this is something that needs to be corrected the next time the contract is modified.

This seems fair for now. He's had a good 6 game stretch. While I have all the confidence it will be duplicated, the smart thing is to actually see it happen, then work on an extension with an improved buyout. I don't think he'd leave for just any job, so we have time.

I agree, I don't think we need to give him a huge raise now, I just hope we have a plan in place to do so within the next year or two if the team's performance warrants. If App wants to be the top program in the Sun Belt, we're going to need to pay our coaches on par with what the coaches at the other top programs are making.

Ok, lets compare apples to apples....
1. M. Hudspeth, UL-L $1,003,156
2. B. Andersen, Arky 700,000
3. N. Brown, Troy 665,000
4. T. Miles, Ga St 510,000
5. J. Jones, USA 471,000
6. D. Franchione, TxSt 401,200
7. P. Petrino, Idaho 400,011
8. W. Fritz, GASO 400,000
9. D. Martin, NMST 377,044
10. T. Berry, UL-M 358,250
11. S. Satterfield 350,000
First I want to thank T-Dog for his hard work in obtaining this info and putting the link on the board. These are all base pay for 2014 except Neal Brown's which is a contract he recently signed. The reality is there for all to see. So for the 2015 season beginning in Jan. 2015 Scott's base will be $375,000. That will put him up one notch... from 11th to 10th. As most of us know, we are in a new world and Rick Beasley and the Chancellor best be having significant conversations. We are probably good for now but the 25k scheduled bump-up will not be enough. Just think if we have a good year but not a blow-out year, say 8-4, 9-3....you are probably looking at 3x that bump. I do think our assistants pool is in-line the Belt... we rank 6th $823,000 but our HC is pretty underpaid. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be crying with that check.... just in relation to what others are making.
