Trophy Game with GS
We discussed the idea before, but what needs to be done to make this a reality?
I'd really like to see a Black and Blue Bowl trophy.

We already do. It's called the Sun Betl Championship. If we'd have beaten them last year, we would have won it, although they would have won it as well

Could we pool resources and commission a big trophy? Winner paints it blue or black etc.

Not something I'd want App to spend any resources on. Actually not something that really interests me personally anyway, though perhaps I'm in the minority. A trophy doesn't make a great rivalry, nor does a great rivalry require a trophy (some have one, others don't).

In the grand scheme, a few hundred bucks on a trophy is nothing. I wouldn't be surprised to see the thing donated.EastHallApp wrote:Not something I'd want App to spend any resources on. And I think a trophy would greatly enhance our rivalry with The Stink and replace what ever void there may still be from the absence of our Jug.

Re: Trophy Game with GS
Agree on the cost. Just disagree on the value. App-WCU needed the Jug to keep it relevant (and even then, it was never one of the bigger games on App's schedule in recent decades). App-Southern doesn't.Gonzo wrote:In the grand scheme, a few hundred bucks on a trophy is nothing. If it ever does happen, hopefully we can at least make the "trophy" something of symbolic value (the Jug being a good example of such), rather than some generic trophy.

We still have The Jug; and will always have it. Do you mean that we need to stoke what is already a hot rivalry with a trophy that's commensurate with the identity of both App and GaSouth? What could that be? It would be interesting to have our fans to generate some ideas for such a trophy. Something with meaning to both fan bases.

Why not use a similar jug filled with creek water from Kraut Creek vs. Drainage Ditch?

That would present a huge safety concern. In the rare event of a Georgia Southern victory we'd have to soak it in bleach for weeks or risk outbreaks of disease in Boone and a smell in our trophy case that could never truly be masked.Saint3333 wrote:Why not use a similar jug filled with creek water from Kraut Creek vs. Drainage Ditch?

It's not a good rivalry trophy if we can both win it every year.T-Dog wrote:We already do. It's called the Sun Betl Championship. If we'd have beaten them last year, we would have won it, although they would have won it as well

I think a giant paddle would fit the bill nicely, given that both schools started out as TCs.

Re: Trophy Game with GS
The Old Mountain jug made sense and was cool because the two schools shared the same region and geography and were so close together. In some ways we were sister schools. Granted, two sisters that hated each other's guts, but nonetheless. Although we have a great rivalry with the Stink, It does not have the same feel. And like has been pointed out, the winner gets the Sun Belt Championship
