Prepare for lower attendance

Unread post by APPARJ » Fri Feb 27, 2015 11:17 am

Grade on our opponents for 2015: A+ ... Best opponent schedule App State has ever had.

Grade for the dates: F

We are playing our 3 most important games on dates that absolutely will not draw big attendance numbers.

Georgia Southern will have a big draw because it's our biggest game of the year and our FIRST Thursday night primetime ESPN(U) game. I'll say we maybe can hit 23K.

Arkansas State on Thursday night? We'll be lucky to hit 18K.

Lafayette on Thanksgiving weekend? FCS Playoff attendance numbers.

I don't know how much influence App State has on the dates or Thursday night games. Maybe none.

Count me as greatly disappointed.

Agree...could have handled one but not two Thursday night games.

ULL on Thanksgiving weekend really pisses me off. I feel like we'll do fine for the Thursday games though, especially for the Stink. I still think we pull 30k for that game.

Been saying at least one, maybe two Thursday night games since the end of last season. It only makes sense given how we finished the year and who we have coming to Boone this year.

This is what being a Sun Belt contender looks like. It should be great exposure for the program. Up to App and us fans to make the attendance work.

Biggest disappointment for me: Bye week on 9/19 + first two SBC games on the road + GSU on 10/22 = just two Saturday home games before Halloween.

So basically, if you're looking to enjoy a football weekend with decent weather, you have two choices - Howard and Wyoming.

If we pull 30K for that game I'll get a tattoo of Davey Jones Yosef on my face.

How can the biggest disappointment not be having our three BIGGEST home games on dates that will hurt attendance?

Put GaSo on Oct. 24th and there's a chance we shatter the KBS attendance record. Now? No way.

I am disappointed that ULL is on Thanksgiving weekend. The other two are not disappointing to me because, as I said, I expected those Thursday games, and of course the biggest opponents were the best candidates for those spots. I think we may have better attendance for those than you think - national TV has a way of drawing out the casual fan.

Oh, another complaint - why is neither Thursday game following a bye week? We have to travel to ULM the Saturday before hosting Southern on Thursday. Meanwhile they get a home game that day.

Is GaSo schedule this unpleasant?

The first Thursday game, especially it being Southern, will draw well because of the novelty. The second one, especially being 14 days later, could be rough. Southern's second Thursday home game last year versus Troy had a shockingly low attendance.

The Thanksgiving weekend game against LaLa is what bothers me the most. Surely that could have changed for the better.

They need to announce all home game times ASAP. The 12-day things last year didn't work.

Also, what a first problem for Doug Gillin, having to figure out the campus tailgating/parking situation for two Thursday night games.

Haven't seen all the schedules. What other Sun Belt programs had a home game on Thanksgiving weekend last year and again this year?

One of our best attended games ever was Wofford on Halloween Night...only missed being the best by 600 fans. If it's a big enough deal, our fans will show. Arky State will be lower, for sure, but I really think that's because it's so close to the other Thursday game.

Do agree that it's BS that we get stuck with a Thanksgiving home game 2 years in a row.

The Wofford Halloween game had the highest student attendance of any App game ever. The entire hill, which is mostly families and non-students, was 100% students for that game. There was a drop in non-student attendance for that game, but made up for and then some in students in costumes.

We got royally screwed by the conference with this schedule. Top 3 games on 2 Thursdays and Thanksgiving plus back to back road games before the Thursday night game against Southern. It's like they are trying to punish the newcomers for being better than they expected.

I had to respond to the Sun Belts tweet about our schedule to ask if they were actually trying to kill our attendance. Maybe I shouldn't' have, but I'm tired of getting crapped on by the league.

One big difference with Friday is people off the mountain don't have to worry about being at work or taking a day off the next day. I'll be there for both games, but we all know a lot of our fans won't make that sacrifice twice in one year.
