Anyone have a clue as to what App will pay for FCOA to athletes? I found the link below on the financial aid page for estimated "cost of attendance".

http://financialaid.appstate.edu/index. ... ith&id=114

Annually
Books/Supplies = $700
Transportation = $1,400 (on-campus) $1,700 (off-campus)
Personal/Misc = $1,500
Total = $3,600 (on) $3,900 (off)

Does this look like a good ballpark estimate?

That's strange, I just clicked it and it worked for me. Below is copied and pasted:

"Cost of Attendance

Cost for Undergraduate Students

Click here for the direct costs of tuition and fees and for room and meals (if on-campus).

*In addition, undergraduate students may have to purchase some books not covered by the book rental program and supplies which are estimated at $700 for the two semesters; transportation expenses, which are estimated at $1,400 for an on-campus student and $1,700 for an off-campus student; and personal and miscellaneous expenses which are estimated at $1,500 for the two semesters."

I am assuming the Transportation is for parking registration. So if the athlete does not have a vehicle that money would not be given out?

Or could it include transportation to and from home?

If those figures are correct lets split the difference and say we average $3,750. Then assume we will provide for 85 football and 13 men's basketball to equal 98 for men, and then double that to give the women an equal number (I'm guessing it has to be equal?) to give us 196 total. So $3,750 x 196= $735,000 in additional scholarship expenses.

We currently spend right around $4,000,000, but the Yosef club brings in just over $3,000,000. That would be adding a pretty large chunk to our scholarship costs. Hope DG and company can bring in some big corporate $$$.

Do we have to provide expenses for the so called "minor" or non-revenue scholarship athletes? If so the figure will far excede the 735 G's.

Gillin has been saying we're not sure yet. It's a tough decision, especially getting a late jump on it.

UALR announced today they are playing FCOA to men's and women's basketball.

Here's an article with some goof info. Georgia Southern is at $8,000, the highest in the Sun Belt.

I thought it was the cost for malaria pills and bottled water, because no body is drinking the water there!

Im pretty sure it will be left up to the school to decide how many to offer, but I believe you have to offer equal men and women.

This will lead to many G5 and perhaps lower P5 schools dropping Olympic sports. Congrats NCAA and media, and tv execs you are killing an overall college athletic experience.

Sorry wrestling, soccer, tennis, etc. your days are numbered at quite a few schools.

Sad really.

RP. I hope you are wrong, though.

Here's an article from ULM's rivals site which shows App as having a $5,397 COA stipend. If this is true, I really don't see the athletic department paying ALL of App's athletes. I'm not sure this will lead to the dropping of Olympic sports, we just won't be able to offer FCOA to those athletes which will lead to a recruiting disadvantage for those programs as compared to others who can offer FCOA to all athletes.

https://ulm.rivals.com/content.asp?SID=1202&CID=1758269

This shows ECU as paying a stipend of $4,025 and Marshall paying $2,850. So we have now seen a range of $3,600 (App Fin Aid site) - $5,400 (ULM rival site).

Here's another link with the breakdown of all Sun Belt schools:

No real explanation indeed.

The Belt is the "highest paying" FBS conference with the Stink paying the most in the country :?: ? That's a real head scratcher.

I wonder if those disparities mean: (A) That it just happens to cost any student more money to go to a G5 school; or (B) That G5 schools are trying to catch up to the lure of the P5 by offering ~2 grand more to play there. (A) seems like too much of a coincidence. (B) seems unlikely, or at least futile, since an ACC team would pay their athletes 10x what we can and not think twice about it.

What a mess.

Attempting to pay a little more than P5 programs isn't a game the G5 wants to play.

This calculation needs to be regulated and quickly. This slope is extremely slippery and it is greased with money, the slimy kind.

If I read this correctly, we are getting screwed because we offer a low cost of tuition for students while the cost of living in Boone is comparable to other areas.

Look like those number are for both semesters. The wording on the App Financial Aid page is blurry as books and personal/miscellanious is for both semesters, but transportation expenses are not explicitly stated as being for both semesters.

Someone should take these numbers and see how they work together.

Here's an article from a few days ago showing where programs COA has "fluctuated" recently. For instance, TCU's COA has more than doubled from it's previous number. Several programs have seen quite an increase in COA. Notice the ACC schools whose "other expenses" have risen over the past 8 years.

Big South schools vote to pay FCOA or Men's and Women's basketball.

http://www.citizen-times.com/story/spor ... /26361637/

I have a feeling the SBC will request all programs pay FCOA for football, basketball, and maybe baseball at the May meeting. I assume title IX comes into play, which will mean virtually every sport will be paying FCOA.
