Re: More Bowls for SBC
"“With the three new bowls, there will be a record 42 bowl games, including the College Football Playoff title game, requiring 82 teams to fill each bowl this season. Nearly 65 percent of the 127 FBS teams will play in a bowl game after the 2015 regular season,” ESPN reported."
We should get one nearly every year unless things take a turn for the worse..

Re: More Bowls for SBC
The one in Austin is news to me. Although I doubt App will ever go there, still good news as it will likely peel off Texas State (if eligible) or one of the LA/AR/AL teams if Tex. St. can't go.
Will be a cool destination for somebody.

I like having a good location but the first bowl location won't matter, I'll be there.

Re: More Bowls for SBC
At the end of this past season, I was a bit concerned about App getting passed over for a more local team, if App is bowl qualified in the future. I'm not as concerned now. Orlando would be a great place to go and I visited Austin over my Christmas vacation in 2013 and it seems to be a great place to go to a bowl game. I even tried to get into Texas Stadium, but I was stopped.
I'm looking forward to this season and the potential of going to a bowl game.

If App is in a bowl , I'm going. I am getting anxious for the season to start. Not too much longer until the 100 day countdown starts!

Already cleared my calendar for the Cure Bowl. Dammit, I want ESPN to be correct.

My wife has already promised me that if App gets to a bowl game this year, she is going to get me some of those black and gold overalls like the student crazies wear and let me wear them to the game. She is a keeper !

Re: More Bowls for SBC
Even if it's Montgomery I'm there...and that wouldn't be so bad anyhow. I was in Montgomery for a couple of days a few weeks back and spent about 30 minutes walking around/inside of the renovated Cramton Bowl and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Old stadium that has really played up the retro/vintage angle during the remodel, from the color choices around the stadium, to the font used throughout on signage...it was pretty neat. It's about half below street-grade and that creates a pretty neat effect. Yes, it's not really within walking distance of many hotels but it looks to have fairly sufficient parking in the neighboring area and as a bonus the elder Hank Williams gravesite is looking down on the stadium from high above in the cemetery just up the street. There are a few neat restaurants not far away and even a bit of nightlife, or so it appeared. It's not Orlando or New Orleans or Austin by any stretch, but for a couple of night's and APP's first bowl appearance Montgomery would certainly do. That having been said, I hope the guys are aiming a bit higher!Saint3333 wrote:I like having a good location but the first bowl location won't matter, I'll be there.

Re: More Bowls for SBC
It'll be interesting to see where we wind up (assuming we qualify), as all the bowls except Orlando are in the footprint in the rest of the league (read: several teams much closer than us). Orlando would be a logical destination, and a great one, especially with the AAC tie-in. But apparently Southern folks think they're the obvious choice there (if, by some disastrous fluke of course, they don't go to the Peach Bowl
).
Best solution for all involved, in terms of travel, would seem to be GSU to Montgomery, ULL to NOLA, Texas State to Austin, A-State/USA to Mobile, and App to Orlando. But if the two Alabama games were to take USA and A-State (not to mention Troy once they get back on track), that could leave Southern and App scrapping for Orlando.

Re: More Bowls for SBC
It is unlikely that Idaho, NMSU, and GA St. all continue to win two conference games collectively in the future. Once the bottom three teams win total rises to 5 or 6 that takes one if not two teams out of bowl eligibility unless everyone improves in OOC.
5 bowls games is likely the right amount for the SBC 3 out of 4 years.

New Mexico State has has four winning seasons since 1968. Idaho has had one winning season since 2000. I'm gonna guess that might have a surprise winning season every now and then, but they're basically going to suck every year. Georgia State I agree with. There's just too much local talent for them to be that bad for that long. Overall, I don't think there will be much of an effect on the conference's ability to get five teams bowl eligible every year.

I would like to see a list of bowls by prestige, media attention, attendance, and pay out. Payout without counting tickets which were forced to be bought.

You cannot do payout without forced tickets. That is part of the payout since the NCAA changed the rules. They are inseperable now.

You weren't concerned by these things while an FCS program.NewApp wrote:I would like to see a list of bowls by prestige, media attention, attendance, and pay out. Payout without counting tickets which were forced to be bought.
A quick answer to all is less than the "BCS" bowls, but more than the FCS playoffs.

Re: More Bowls for SBC
We never had to force sales of our tickets. In fact the three playoffs I attended had more buyers than there were tickets. I don't know where you get off on me fully supporting FCS while we were in it. You should have, too.Saint3333 wrote:You weren't concerned by these things while an FCS program.NewApp wrote:I would like to see a list of bowls by prestige, media attention, attendance, and pay out.
