Kickoff for Howard: 3:30

Unread post by EastHallApp » Wed Jun 03, 2015 11:51 am

It's buried in today's release about the HOF class, but the season opener will kick off at the traditional 3:30 time.

No word on TV coverage, though I think we can safely assume ESPN3.

The 3:30p kickoff should make most fans happy!

As for tv coverage, it's time to implement "Operation Ratings Ruse" or "APPeration Peepers Ploy". This idea came to me the other evening as the mason jar quenched my thirst. Those of us with access to ESPN3 need to make sure that we have our tv's tuned in (via roku, xbox, appletv etc...) to the App game regardless if you are in attendance or even unable to watch the game on tv for whatever reason. We know we'll get a few Sun Belt fans to tune in and maybe even a handful of UNCC, ECU, Marshall, ODU and local ACC fans to check a game out, not to mention future opponents' fans (ie. Wyoming) who want to see what they can expect in their upcoming game with App. If we could get a decent contingent of our fan base to access the game on ESPN3 we could bolster the ratings numbers which could ultimately help the conference during the next tv contract negotiation.

(yes, I know I should probably put the jar down)

The press release about TV games from early May stated that Howard will be shown on ESPN3. So far every game will be on some form of ESPN except the ODU which hasn't had TV announced yet.

The tailgater in me is hoping this is a trade off for what might happen for those Thursday games. I know classes wont be completely cancelled for the day, wasn't expecting them to be, either. Calling off classes after 2pm is my best guess/hope.

Hard to justify a 3rd night game especially with it being Howard.

I believe a third night game on Halloween vs Troy is possible.

I always try and tune in to ESPN3 when App is playing even if I walk away from the computer. ESPN knows what is streaming to a higher degree of accuracy that any Nielson rating could. Sometimes if I am not home I will play the event later on reply. At lease it is being watched.

Without breaking any confidence I do know a family VERY VERY close to me that has been carrying around a device that records media use. From what I have been told this particular family has one more year and again when App in on the radio or TV those devices are picking up the signal. They are doing what they can to make sure App is drawing a crowd on the TV/Radio/Internet bit.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

Glad Howard is at 3:30 and glad to see the list of HOF inductees. Should be a special day. Go Apps!

That would be a lot of fun in some ways, but a pain for some people in other ways. Most years I would say we shou, d absolutely have a night game on Halloween, but not sure it would be the right call this year.

They also just announced a half-season package that's the first three Saturday games, which would pretty clearly seem to be aimed at people who can't or won't make it up the mountain on a weeknight. Presumably some of those same people would also be less likely to attend a Saturday night game.

I really hope that we get a packed house for the season opener. With Coach Moore, Armanti, Chip Hooks, Daniel Wilcox, and Leigh Cooper Wallace being inducted into the HOF, maybe some fringe folks will come back out. Also, if weather cooperates and gives us a mid 70 day in the high country with blue skies, I would be disappointed if we did not approach 30,000 for Howard game. I do know that I will be there with 5 more in tow :!:

That's good to hear. No excuses for people to not at least buy that package.
