Stink and A-State are 7:30 kickoffs...

Unread post by luvyosef » Mon Jun 08, 2015 12:46 pm

...per FBSchedules.com. Sun Belt has released all "tv games" i.e. ESPN 3 for the 1st three weeks and have the times for the already announced mid-week games. I suspect the rest of the games will kickoff at 3:30 due to these two late kickoffs. Go Apps!

How many employees will be made to leave early due to the parking lots being cleared?
How many classes will be disrupted due to teachers/students not being able to get to campus?

I ask this because:
Game 7:30
Gates 5:30
?Tailgating 5pm?

Will there be a push to open the lots at 4:30? 4pm?
How long will employees have to evacuate campus?
Will no one be able to enter the lots from 3:30 to 5pm to allow spaces to be open?

7:30 is about the worst time the games could have started.
That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

They would be smart to cancel classes for both Thursdays beginning at 2 or later. Many teachers cancel class throughout a given semester multiple times anyways. Students will be tailgating all day long as it is.

It's two days out of the year. People can deal with it. And they better learn to, because we'll likely be playing 1-2 weeknight home games per year for the foreseeable future.

That's a little early for a pillow fight. Don't they have to wait till the adults go to bed?

Why don't we just call the whole day off.

SPA Employees that would have to move off campus early would have to take vacation time if they did not work through the normal time. With the campus now closed during Dec, staff is being forced to take a lot of vacation time whether they want to or not.

One of them will get their first FBS win & the game is likely to be over before most folks get home from the office

The faculty has already rejected calling the whole day off. There's going to be classes, at least in the morning.

From today's press release.
Appalachian State athletics and leaders from the University and Town of Boone have been working for several months to develop a plan to make the Thursday night games a success, with the goal of causing as little disruption to the University’s academic mission and inconvenience to area residents and the thousands of visiting alumni and fans as possible. The plan is in its final stages of development and will be announced soon.

I was in undergrad for the Wofford Halloween game. If I recall we had class in the morning, late afternoon classes cancelled, and still had plenty of time to tailgate before kickoff. That game had over 30k people and it seemed to work out well logistically, though I was living on campus and didn't have to deal with the traffic 8-) . That game was later though, as I recall. I hope they have the fortitude to cancel classes after lunch. I mean, I feel for the teachers (making up classes and catching up with material etc), but we're trying to run a business here.

And they have something like 6 months' notice to prepare. These are smart people, I'm sure they can adapt.

I don't follow. How is 7:30 worse, in your eyes, than 6:00 or earlier? Wouldn't that gum up ordinary daytime activities even more?

We should be excited about this opportunity, not upset about the start times. It is our chance to break the Kidd Brewer Stadium attendance record of 31,531 on national television (ESPNU). Last year, Stink got over half their student body to go to the App State - Ga Southern game on a Thursday night. It was their second largest crowd ever. Thursday night can be great for us as well, just got to encourage every Mountaineer (Students, Faculty, Alums and Fans) to be there and be loud. Its time for some payback!
