No Offseason

I noticed today that App football offered DB Martial Washington on the spot in camp! He must be some kind of good!
GaSo offered him today, too.
It seems like there's not been as much App chatter from some of us as I usually see on Twitter. With all the restrictions on recruiting there's no legit way for any direct contact with recruits. Being an App fan is perfectly permissble.
If you're a social media sort, please spend a little time on Twitter letting the world know how great App is. Make sure you're tagging App football and hashtagging AppNation.
Moose and some others could probably offer some pointers on allowable tweets if you have questions.
Thanks.

One thing I think is fine to do is, when a recruit tweets something about App (e.g., received an offer, enjoyed a visit, etc.), favorite and/or retweet it. Don't want to start talking to them, but that's a way to show them some App love without crossing booster lines.
If I'm wrong, someone please correct me, of course.

No problems there East. Direct contact for talking is out although Welcoming someone to the Family when they commit is not something that is going to get a school in trouble. More contact after that is a violation and dragging recruits into the middle of fights between fans by adding their handle in the post is very bad (has happened in the past but only once last year that I saw). But, as you said, following an offered player, hitting favorite or retweeting the post about the offer and any other posts that are about App is not going to get us in trouble. Fans at all of our peer schools are doing it already, especially our buddies to the south. As soon as a player tweets they have been offered by them they get 20-30 favorites and about the same retweets in the first few minutes and it just builds from there. A lot of the P5's will get 100's just for a reported offer. AppNation is a big family and can show just as much love as anyone with no direct contact involved. I know it seems like such a little thing to a lot of the old heads but the players notice.
I follow every player that reports an offer and a lot of targets also. I don't talk to them but it's one of the ways I keep track of what's going on. When an offer is reported I always favorite and retweet the post. Same for commits but I also add a Welcome to the Mountaineer Family for them. If someone isn't following a player they can just retweet and favorite any post I make about an offer or commit. They'll still see the love.

In all honesty no school is ever going to get in trouble for contacting a recruit through social media. With that being said, it's just creepy to plead with a 17 year old kid about coming to App. If you're ever about to tweet a recruit just think about this first:

Another good idea is to contact the compliance office for guidance. The big things to remember are A) once a booster always a booster and B) brag on the academics all you want to but discussing/extolling our athletic virtues are verboten.

Very true Scat. Someone might want to tell Ga Sou fans that...and pretty much every school down to D-3. From what I've seen just on the 275-300 recruits I follow that are either reported offers or possible targets for App we are one of the least engaged fan bases as far as any violations. And I'm not going to say it in the open but with how much this is affecting us this year I've been using some of the little time I do have to store up some info, just in case.

Let's be honest, the rules on social media communication are archaic and unenforceable. Everyone violates them openly in part because fans aren't aware of them, but also because they know nothing will come of it.
Not saying we should do the same - we shouldn't. Just being realistic.
