The Band of Distinction
I may be the only one and don't really care, but I thought our band put on a classy show this afternoon and with evident precision. The baton twirllers were especially refreshing. It's obvious they put in many, many hours of practice and they all seemed to enjoy what they were doing.

Yep, the band was great, no question.
I REALLY liked the last Led Zep song, that included the 2 electric guitars & bass. First time I've seen that from the BOD & I LIKED!!!

Re: The Band of Distinction
I agree but GET THAT PURPLE OFF OUR FIELD! As a band mom of many years, I know they have many years of stored flags, let's get them OUT OF THE CLOSET! Heck, if we don't have any, I'll get my sewing machine out!!!!!

Re: The Band of Distinction
While they're thowing out the purple ones, they can throw out the marroon ones as well. Our colors are black and gold. When one adds white to black and gold, there are plenty of great flag options without having to use Furman, WCU, and Elon colors.BUTCH1991 wrote:But they still had those stupid purple flags. NO FURPLE!
I am truly impressed with the band's performance on the field this year. They seem to be enjoying themselves and doing a fine job muscially and marchingly as well. Yay, BOD!

I also liked the fact that the flag waving guys had on the same top as the gals and that they turned to the "STATE" side to play.

IMHO... Purple flags and instruments that require a power source belongs to another band in this side of the state....

Re: The Band of Distinction
I am glad you mentioned that . At the Montana game that was not the case, and things looked off to me b/c of that. Marching bands look best when in common uniforms, and having 3 Flag Corps dressed differently just bothered me.huskie3 wrote:I also liked the fact that the flag waving guys had on the same top as the gals and that they turned to the "STATE" side to play.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.
Re: The Band of Distinction
I TOTALLY LOVED THE SHOW! I told Kevin and many of the band kids that it was one of the BEST I've EVER seen this band perform! I totally agree with the disposal of the furple flags. Having been around marching bands my whole life, I understand the occasional use of varied colors for visual impact but I'd prefer other colors than our arch enemies! However, the rock band instruments I really liked! Unlike WCU, we don't RELY on that as the musical backbone for a show. I thought it was a nice change and great addition to the programing.....lots of audience appeal! The students LOVED it! Great crowd response!
Re: The Band of Distinction
Just a little FYI: The next show will be Latin Jazz. Can't wait to see that one!

Re: The Band of Distinction
That was one of the most energetic halftime shows the band has had in several years. I'm excited to see what Dr. KR can do once he gets the numbers back up.
Also, burn the purple flags!

When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

Yes, the Tennessee Waltz is still there! That started waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the Joe Phelps' era.

Re: The Band of Distinction
I'd like to send out a BIG THANK YOU
to the Marching Mountaineers and Dr. Kevin Richardson for dedicating the pre-game show to my former Band Director Robert J. Love, who passed away on Thursday.
Director Love was an ASU alum ('53 & '57), veteran, business owner and Band Director in Caldwell County for 28 years. But more importantly, he was a devoted family man, great teacher and wonderful person.
