N(CoA)A to the rescue???

Unread post by moonshine » Tue Jul 21, 2015 12:57 pm

NCAA to distribute $18.9mil to help pay for COA. This breaks down to a whopping $55,000 per program! A drop in the bucket but every little bit helps. At $55,000 and the $3,200 COA figure thrown out by Gillin, the NCAA would help to cover roughly 17 athletes. To bad the P5'$ won't relinquish their portion to help the smaller programs which could raise that figure to around $65,000 apiece.

This feels like a "please don't leave us" gift from the NCAA to P5 schools and a "ooh, I guess we have to throw you a bone too" to G5's. If anyone has any NCAA revenue figures from 2014 I'd love to see them. Apparently the commitment to integrity, sportsmanship, and academic and athletic excellence is expensive.

Where are you getting that statement from? According to the article, the $18.9 million is getting distributed equally.
Each of the nearly 350 Division I schools will get an equal share of the money, meaning the schools will receive about $55,000 apiece, Kathleen McNeely said during a session at the National Association of College and University Business Officers’ annual meeting.

Kidd it was tongue in cheek since the P5's are rolling in dough. If those 60 or so programs would forfeit their measly $55k back to the pot, it would roughly raise the other 290 programs payout from $55k to $65k ($18.9m/290).

Not sure why it would be expected for some schools to simply forfeit their share. And why all the negativity over an additional $55k that wasn't guaranteed or even expected?

The correct answer is, "thank you, NCAA. We will now offer COA in men's and women's basketball."

The entitlement culture strikes again. Why should the P5 guys give up their share to help out others?

No entitlement here.
