The SunBelt took some good knuckle sandwiches this Saturday, albeit from perceived better teams, however they weren't even close. If APP was picked 4th place, I like our chances to finish higher. The Clemson game will be a good measuring stick.

I agree. However, I feel confident that the other top SBC programs could have produced similar results against Howard. In order to have a chance against Clemson we will need to be able to score a bunch of points because their offense is explosive.

The positive from yesterday was the display of quality depth that can serve us going forward.

I would agree with you on what teams would do to Howard but reverse that logic and ask how we would have done against some of those opponents that our brethren played? I thought that ULM played ok and Texas State played well in spurts. But the others sans Loisiana and Ark St. (Didn't see them) looked really bad. They will get better and will give us a game, but you are right. Our depth looked good mentally. One I mean by that is that we didn't give up any big plays or have any bad plays on offense. My takeaway from that is that the kids play assignment football. And given the first game of the year, we didn't have nearly the amount of mental mistakes has some teams had.

Yep, looks like APP and the Gumroots pitched the only shutouts for the SunBelt week 1. Was GaSouthern picked #1? Guess they forgot to show up? Nothing like GSU losing to Mountaineers twice in one season. LaLafayette had a respectful outing. Dang Cobb? Maybe this weekend APP can earn some respect back for the conference.

I am surprised by the Stink result, not that I know anything about the WVa defense, but I never would have guessed a shutout.

I think the Clemson game will be telling for the Apps, especially in light of the GaSouthern game. If we perform better against Clemson then they did against WVa, then that's a really good indication that a conference title is very much within our reach.

GS is in a tough spot going forward, they don't have a backup qb who can run the option offense, but, for them to be effective their starting qb, Ellison, must run the ball 15 -20 times a game which makes him vulnerable to injuries, their is no way to protect him in this offense, if he goes down with an injury, their season is basically over, its a dam if you do, dam if you don't situation.
