costal carolina in sunbelt confrance
I think costal Carolina and app state should be rivals since Georgia southern does not want to be rivals anymore I think sunbelt made a great move on asking costal to move up

Where on earth did you get the idea that Georgia Southern doesn't want to be rivals? That's completely ridiculous. If you're referring to the "travel partner" arrangements, that is a function of traveling for the benefit of the TRAVELING schools. It has nothing to do with who is your rival. The rivalry between App and GS is a great one and will be around a LONG time.ASU85Grad wrote:I think costal Carolina and app state should be rivals since Georgia southern does not want to be rivals anymore I think sunbelt made a great move on asking costal to move up
"Rivals" aren't designated. They evolve on their own merit.

I won't attack your opinion, but I must question, why do you feel GSU doesn't want to be our rival? Why would Coastal make a good rivalry? As others mentioned. Rivalries just happen, they aren't created.ASU85Grad wrote:I think costal Carolina and app state should be rivals since Georgia southern does not want to be rivals anymore I think sunbelt made a great move on asking costal to move up

The thought came from the same brain that misspelled "coastal" and "conference" in the thread title.coachprouty wrote:How could you think anyone is a rival other than Ga.Southern?

Re: costal carolina in sunbelt confrance
I just got back from a tennis tourney at Coastal Carolina this weekend. Fri., Sat., & Sun.
I have wondered why the SunBelt would allow Coastal in & why Coastal would want in. I think I know now.
First, it is a beautiful campus & 15 miles (ish) from Myrtle Beach itself. There are shopping & great dining opportunities everywhere.
Second, & more importantly, Coastal is apparently awash in $$. Their stadium is currently a small, but very nice, stadium. Think Samford at the beach. But, they have apparently prepared for a large stadium addition within the next year. There is construction going on everywhere.
Whether or not there is a large alumni base wanting to watch big boy college football. I don't know. BUT, if a handful of folks want to pony up the $$ to play ball, then fine. One can assume that Coastal is doing something right. And, that something probably includes developing a hefty scholarship fund for players.
So, while at first at wondered who was drinking the kool-aid when they let Coastal in the Sunbelt, I am now thinking this could be an really good development. The visitors will have an absolute blast !!!
And so, we can have a rival at Coastal, where we can go party at Myrtle Beach, and we can have a rival at GaSo, where we can go party at .... um, well, down near Eagle Creek somewhere.

Also, Coastal football is pretty good. They're currently sitting at #1 in the FCS polls...so, there's that.

Whew! I was almost offended. I thought you were talking about my post, and then I saw the title of this thread.Yosef10 wrote:What a great education App provided some of our alums........
He cant hep it. If he is an App grad, I'm sure he's a prince of a fellow. I am reminded of what Mark Twain said about spelling, "It's a dull mind that can only spell a word one way."
