According to Sun Belt commissioner Karl Benson, games like this weekend’s are the ones the conference needs to win. After a couple weeks of paying the bills, Appalachian travels to Norfolk for more than just a football game, but for an audition of what could be at the end of the regular season. Appalachian and Old Dominion have the same mindset when it comes to games between fellow members of the Group of Five conferences. The games are highly important to each program’s place within the Group of Five. Each win is one game closer to getting to six wins, which is the minimum requirement to be considered for the post season. When bowl committees are looking for schools to invite to their game, they want to know who wins on the road and who sells tickets. Neither team wants to be sitting at 6-6 hoping for a telephone call that may never come. Old Dominion and Appalachian are both in their first year of bowl eligibilty and it would mean a lot for both schools to reach that goal this season. Both schools fan bases expect to win. Anything short of that will be a disappointment and leave their team sitting with an even win-loss record or less.

Been looking forward to this game since the offseason. Here is where were going to see where the team really stands against competition on the same level. I think our defense will hold Lawry in check for most of the game. With some breathing room provided by a stifling defense, our offense will move the ball with great success against a weary defense. Look for Capel to have a big game on Special teams. Cox will also have big games on the offensive side of the ball. Will Latrell Gibbs get his 3rd pick in as many games? I guess we'll have to watch and see.

ODU is one dimensional on offense. The 3-4 will cause them problems. I said this after the Klempsun game but I don't think that our defense will give up 41 points the rest of the year. ODU won't put a dent in that total. App 35

I look for a tough hard fought game with App pulling away in the second half. Might need a little more Upshaw for down hill this week due to weather.

if they get the 30-40 mph winds, and the 1 to 2 inches of rain, game will be much closer than it probably should, still, everything points to us getting a solid win. App 34 ODU 17

Was thinking this would be a shootout (at least on our end), but it sounds like weather might keep the score down somewhat.

I got a really good feeling about this game. I expect big games from the linebackers and I expect App to win TOP handily. The big question is finishing drives, but we're not running against Clemson's D-Line.

We aren't going to stop the run as effectively as NCSU did, and I think both running games get 150+ yards on the ground (I hope I'm wrong about them). I'm more concerned with the light coming on for their young QB (which will happen at some point this year) and their WRs are good route runners and created adequate separation from NCSU's DBs.
I guess my point I believe their passing game could be the difference if they play to the level of the talent that have in that area.
Also their special teams may be better than our.
I'd give us the edge on defense, them on special teams, and depending on their WRs a push on offense.

Supposed to rain, could cause some problems. Please hold onto the ball, and limit those turnovers.
