APP STATE / WYOMING WX TRENDS #4 Friday AM - HOPE!
My fellow mountaineers, looks like we should be in line to catch a break for the better part of the late Saturday morning and afternoon hours. Heaviest of the rain should fall tonight, through 8 or 9 Saturday AM. Given the track of the ULL, South across the FL Panhandle zone, and how the moisture will pivot around that low, as it moves E/NE, looks like Asheville zone south to N.GA and the Midlands of SC may really get the big ticket stuff.
So, in short, I am feeling better about not having to fight through a big deluge of constant rain through the day Saturday. Breezy and gusty winds (can't forget the winds tomorrow) could bring down some trees tonight and Saturday, but the really big teeth appear to be lining up well South of The ROCK.
Let me be clear, periods of light rain and drizzle will still be active, damn you upslope, but at least it shouldn't be just a steady wall of water. Those traveling today, and I hope you still will, stick to the 321's and 421's as you head up the mountain. I'd stay off the smaller 2 lanes, just incase some flooding or trees do fall. The wider the road, for tree falls, the more probable there's a way around.
I'll will update later today. I do like where the trend is heading as of this post; workable.
As always... GO MOUNTAINEERS!

Thanks WX. Game on. Let's pack the Rock and show the team that the weather doesn't bother us either. The way I see it, you can only get so wet anyway. Tomorrow, let's give our all for Appalachian State.
Happy Homecoming!

I'm of the belief, it's worth the effort to change plans, if one planned not to attend, and come on up regardless. I want folks to be safe to and from, but I like where the trend and reality seem to be setting up. Course, change is always possible... I'll be watching...

WX-Should we expect wind through tailgate time? We are at the top of the Library Deck and often the wind is the worst part.

Yes... Winds are likely to be gusty to 35 mph or 40 mph for east facing slopes up there... Can't discount the winds...

I figured it out from my very limited meteorological knowledge, but my first thought was the Cajuns! Yeah, too bad the weather isn't underperforming like our friends from Lafayette.WXAPP wrote:"Crutch" I know right?! I wish the ULL was as underperforming... alas.. it's Upper Level Low...

I'd feel better about making the trip if they'd have moved the game up to 1 pm or something like that. I'll sit through a monsoon at the game, I don't care about that as I am prepared with my weather gear, but its that 6 hour trip home late at night that I worry about in bad weather that's probably going to keep me home this weekend as bad as I want to go.

Had a few minutes to rest and get ready for what looks like a long stretch. Hope everyone is safe and as WX said, stick to the Main roads. We'll try and keep them as clear as possible. Over 13 inches since the rain began this week at my house on the east side. Really don't want any more but the winds are as big a concern as anything right now. Chain saws are sharpened, fueled, and ready to go. A lot of first responders will be working throughout to keep things as safe as possible. Enjoy the game and Go Apps for the W!!!

AppinATL.. given what you would be driving through... A sound decision for you all. I told some folks who had a big group going to the Clemson game in a passenger van, to stay HOME. I said you all will be a news story waiting to happen. Upstate of SC to Cola back to N.Ga even the ATL area.. Just stay home. The travel will take you right into heavy rain in those areas. Boone, rain yes (doesn't look so heavy from 11 am to late night, concern for some flooding (given the foot of rain over the last week), yes.. trees down with gusty winds a good potential.... But that wall of water for those coming up I-85 in Upstate back to ATL... down to COLA... just be safe.

Wow.. just getting the fast scan of the new model runs.. I have to say, winds, saturated ground and tree issues... after 11 AM, looks like we really lock in the break from the steady to heavy rain. Trend continues getting better. Mind you, model vs Ma Nature.. so we'll see how all this coordinates or not through the rest of the day. I"ll have post #5 our after 7 PM... it will be the final call on my part...
Take away from this... ? Rain trend getting better....

Folks, remember no umbrellas are allowed in KBS (as if even a windproof umbrella in Boone winds would help at all). Make sure your rain gear is wearable. See you at The Rock!

What do you see up the Hwy 321 route? I called the BR chamber and got very little help; I think they just didn't know. Plans to leave late tonight.WXAPP wrote:AppinATL.. given what you would be driving through... A sound decision for you all. We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Scat.. I would think 321 should be OK.. given the widening. I haven't traveled if for a few years however.
Dry socks a GREAT IDEA!
