Some get mad when we talk about the future what ifs...I say do it anyways. We don't determine the outcomes of the games, so why not have fun as fans?

That's is the one thing we, as fans, CAN do is look ahead.

Playing Tulsa in Orlando would be cool. And I like the idea of playing Bowling Green, but I'm still not 100% sold on the GoDaddy Bowl. Of course, any bowl would be a thrill, and I'll be there.

What bowl does an 11-1 App State get invited to?

Go Daddy, Camelia, Cure or New Orleans. That's it.

Not so fast, there might be an outside shot at bowls others than you mentioned. If App runs the table and could qualify for a higher tier bowl they would go. Maybe not a New Year's Six but a bowl that could not fill the conference affiliations or connections that they may have. If it meant a higher profile for the Sun Belt it would happen

Kind of depends on how Clemson finishes their season. Hypothetically if we were to run the table and finish 11-1 PLUS Clemson going 12-0 and winning the ACC Championship, the conversation may change a little bit. We have secondary consideration in 3 other bowls other than the previously mentioned so it isn't entirely out of the question to go somewhere else. That said, A LOT will have to go our way, including some help from the top tier G5's.

I would hope that if we happen to run the table (with some impressive wins) that an 11-1 record would get some consideration for a better bowl. It would be really depressing to think that, for bowl consideration, a 9-3 record (first or second in the Sunbelt) or an 11-1 record (undefeated in the conference with only a loss to a really good Clemson team) would make no difference when it comes to bowl consideration. Guess we just have to kick some tail for the next 7 weeks and see what happens.

I don't think so this year. We have no history. I'd like to be wrong about that, but I think we're pretty much locked into one of those four this year.

If our schedule was stronger I could see us potentially getting a bowl game with more notoriety. We can't hang our hats on the Clemson game because Clemson spanked us. If we kept it close the entire game we would have a better claim if we went 11-1. However, wins over Wyoming (0-6), Howard (0-5), and ODU (2-3) still probably would not do enough to put us in a better bowl.

Trips to New Orleans and Orlando don't sound too bad though :)

Even if Clemson wins the national Title and we go undefeated the rest of the way, we probably wouldn't get a New Years day bowl game.

I can't see us going to any other bowls than the GoDaddy, Camela, Cure or NO Bowl regardless if we go 11-1 or 6-6. And in all honesty it'll probably be that way for a while. We'd have to run the table for several seasons and take down a couple of P5 teams, and probably be invited up to another conference, of anything else to occur.

Baby steps, we just got here. I'd just like to be able to actually make a bowl in our first year of eligibility...and hopefully an outright/share of the conference championship.

Many over on the GSO board believe they're a lock for the Cure. I'd love to travel down to New Orleans, not really feeling going to BFE Alabama.

I agree, it's a bit sad that the bowl system effectively punishes (or at least does not reward) a G5 team for going 11-1 instead of 7-5, but there are a few things to keep in mind.

First, 6-6 for a G5 is not a guaranteed bowl bid. It makes the team eligible, but given the revenue boost from a geogrphically close ULL, I would not be surprised if a 6-6 ULL gets the NO Bowl over a 6-6 App State, even if App beat ULL in the head-to-head. The influx of ancillary bowls in the last couple years reduces the chance for a 6-6 team to be left out, but it is possible. Win games.

Second, bowls are all about revenue. The almighty dollar makes the decision not the record, or the strength of schedule. TV revenue trumps ticket revenue. In addition to winning games, a G5 program needs national attention and interest to move up in the bowl bidding war. National attention comes in the form of beating a P5, even better beating a ranked P5, or "starting" 10-0 or 11-0, or winning mulitple conference titles in a row, you get the idea. Win games.

Third, bowls are all about revenue. As much as TV revenue trumps ticket revenue, ticket sales matter. Teams that travel well will get better consideration for better bowls. Bowl organizers a looking out for their revenue first, and the host city second. Booking hotel rooms, eating at restaruants, all that matters. Heads in beds can be the difference and App State fans have to prove we are willing to travel in support of the team. For fans, showing up is the whole battle.

This is the answer. All the talk about secondary tie-ins only applies if we get passed over by the four bowls above, and that's not happening if we win 11 (or even close to it).

Of course, Clemson winning the national title won't do anything about a bowl bid this year as bowl bids would go out before the national title game.

I would LOVE watching APP STATE play in any bowl game. I think its a moment we all look forward to as we transitioned to FBS.

You know what I meant, since we lost to Clemson, Even if they were invited to a national championship or a 4 team playoff, that would probably not help our perception enough along with winning out our schedule to get us a higher bowl. Geesh some people..you have to be soo literal.

I don't buy this "clemson winning makes us look better" argument everyone wants to spit. No one...and I mean no one on a bowl selection will go back and look at that game any closer than the score, and the score makes it look like we got curb stomped by a great team. Giving them a half decent game is all that would've mattered.

And that curb stomping doesn't look better if Clemson wins out (or close to it) than if Clemson poops the bed and ends up 8-4? (Not that I think that will happen.) Of course our loss looks better if Clemson wins than if Clemson loses.
