First time at The Rock

Unread post by APPHokie12 » Mon Oct 19, 2015 9:17 pm

A couple buddies and myself are coming up from Bristol to see our first App State game Thursday! I have been following App for a while now and have always wanted to catch a game. I have a few questions about the gameday process. What are some traditions?(songs, entrance, chants, etc) Also what is the parking situation like for non passholders? I am very excited for the game and us Hokies going will be cheering like we are in Lane!

Because of it being on a Thursday at 7:30pm, I am not certain as to the timing of everything but here goes :
-Mountaineer Walk
-NC's Band of Distinction (pay particular attention to drumline)
-HiHiYikeUs Fight Song
-APP / STATE cheer from west to east
-Beating the holy crap out of the South Georgia Igglets
Seriously hope that you enjoy your visit to Kidd Brewer . Always felt like we had a lot in common with Va Tech.

Hokies:
Welcome! You've chosen a great game to come to the Rock.

Parking will be a challenge, so get there early. See the link from the earlier post for parking info.

I suggest getting inside the stadium about 45 minutes prior to kickoff (so by 6:45) to watch the band enter the stadium. If your seats are on the East Side, come over to the West Side (Field House side) to watch & listen to the band. The student section on about the 50 yd line will be rocking.

Oh, FYI, the fight song, HiHi Yikas (and I have no idea what that means) is an old Bavarian drinking song (no kidding).

Welcome to The Rock! There should be much fun to be had Thursday (other than the parking headaches). Come early, take your time, wear some black and gold (or just black works for me), and enjoy some Mountaineer hospitality.

Welcome to The Rock!!! One important tradition we do have is stomping a mud hole in Southern's face, so if you're down with that we'll all get along.
You're welcome to stop by Raley/Peacock lot space 273 for some tailgating before the game.

Fight song: the chant is "go...fight...kick ass"

I'm also very fond of the "APP" <> "STATE" chant across the field.

Welcome! Free parking and free shuttle service at Watauga County Human Services lot. Since it is a business day for those folks they may not allow game parking 5pm.

Daphne, why will there be parking headaches more than any Saturday game. Won't the student and faculty lots be cleared of cars as usual?

You're kidding, right? Have you not been reading all the threads discussing parking woes when the university is still holding classes and folks are trying to get to Boone for football?

I shouldn't have too much trouble since I park in the stadium lot, and it's supposed to be cleared before the 3:00 allowed tailgate time. We'll see when I get there.

No, I'm not kidding, however, I'm one of those guys who doesn't much care about parking availability anywhere until an hour and a half before game time as I rarely spend three hours tailgating. Let the students, staff, faculty, et al have the parking lots on a week day until it's absolutely necessary. Little disruption to normal academics as possible even though I love ASU football as a much as anyone else.
