Should I keep these tix? (opinions needed)

So about 4 or 5 months ago, I was offered 4 tickets to tomorrow night's game. GREAT SEATS. Like all of you, this game has been circled on the calendar for a looooong time. I was super excited and took this person up on the offer.
Months go by, and we're getting closer. All is well. Last Friday I pick up the tickets and did a happy dance. Then Monday comes and I get a text message saying that the owner of the tickets needs those tickets back.
WHAT?
So I'm in a tizzy since I've got 3 friends coming up for the game and we've all been looking forward to this epic event. To find out the week of the game that we no longer have tickets (and money is tight so it was a true blessing for all of us) was a tremendous let down.
Last night I get the message we're all good on the tickets and all is well.
About an hour ago I find out that the owner wants 2 of the tickets back. Turns out there's a wishy washy friend that decided to come up last minute.
At this point I'm spitting nails. What would ya'll do? I think I'd feel differently if I had asked for these tickets but they were offered. Not to mention I have them in-hand. I'm so torn, and mad, and just disappointed. Such a mess.

There's a few ways to look at this. Purely from a legal stand point, possession is 9/10 the law, so you have no legal obligation to give the tickets back. Life is rarely as black and white as the written rule of law however, so there are other considerations.
Perhaps the golden rule comes into play. Even though the original owner's waffling on the tickets may not be deserving of consideration, there is no way of knowing the extenuating circumstances leading to the give, want back, give back, want partial back ugliness. If you were in the other shoes, you'd want the 2 tickets back.
Also worth considering, you'll be sitting next to this person at the game. . . .

Is the person a friend? Someone you want to continue to have a civil relationship with. If not tell them sorry you already gave the tickets to friends. Not a lie as you have already made plans right? If this is a friend or someone you will see frequently then you have a different problem but still the argument that you have already promised or gave the tickets away should hold water.

I personally wouldn't give them back, but if you decide to do so, I have an extra ticket I can give you. You would only be short one ticket, hopefully easing the financial burden a little. I personally think they are excellent seats.

The answer to this question is the same as the answer to most legal questions: It depends!
"Absolute gifts are gifts absolutely" -- I think the presumption would be that this was a valid inter vivos gift, which this person would have to overcome with evidence that she did not intend to give it to you.
Elements of a valid gift:
-Intent (must be current intent, not future intent)(“will give you” no intent)
-Delivery (type of delivery depends on the item being transferred)
-Acceptance (presume that it is accepted)
The tickets are yours (I think).
Now, should you give them back and buy some more to ensure that we have the most App fans at the game as possible? Probably.

This is what I would do, for whatever that's worth...
I'd give the tickets back. I'll explain why in a bit. If you have any other friends that have connections to tickets that might have spares, I'd contact them. If you don't, I would ask folks on MMB if they have extras to accommodate your circumstance. If no one can help you out, I'd go to Boone and walk in the stadium and Raley lots and ask if anyone tickets. They almost certainly will and I would guess at a discount price. Either way, you can get into the game, in my opinion, without having to pay face value. I could be wrong but even so, at the end of the day, according to our ticket sales, you'll be able to walk up and buy tickets.
The reason I'd give the tickets back is to simply avoid petty conflict that isn't worth the hassle or stress. In my opinion, if the situation is exactly as you described and he didn't put any stipulation on the tickets or hint that he may really need them in a pinch, this person that gave you the tickets and is asking for them back is WRONG. It's a shallow, cheap move. Further, in the future I would avoid receiving any favors from this person just to avoid being in an awkward situation. That way I think you avoid burning a bridge while you take the high road.
Just my thoughts.

Threads like this are why we still have 2,000 tickets. TONS of people want tickets. They just don't want to pay 30 bucks for them.
This includes your boy. I'm still looking for more tickets.

Tough situation, me personnally Id give them back then in the future be wary of any so called gifts from this individual and taking this person serious from here on out. If you still want to come to the game, come there are still tickets for sale. If you can't afford to purchase the tickets at full price, wait to just after the game starts, someone will be selling them outside the gate for a reduced rate.

I love ya'll and thanks for the responses. I've been working on this for the last hour and we came to a resolution. Our group won't get to sit together but we will get a couple of hours of tailgating in (YAAAASSSSS!) and we still get to go to the game (where we all have a deep and profound hatred of The Stink). I'm just glad we were able to work something out.
Plus, after all this, I'm sure I'll have a lot of frustration to get out of my system and that means I'll be THAT much louder when yelling "APP!!!".

To Gonzo's point, I've never understood our fans gripe with ticket prices. I understand not wanting to pay tons of money to watch a crappy product, but we are no longer bad and its $30.00. Heaven help us if our tickets ever get into the range of some of these other schools.

Well said. I think Gonzo is exactly right. There's the purely legal answer, and then there's the equitable answer. And, they are not necessarily the same answer.
I think you should do what you think is right with those tickets, because no one can dispute that the decision is all yours to make. Your choice.

Your friend was wrong for asking you to return those tickets. I'm glad you worked it out and will be at the game!

Totally classless move to ask for them back. That person should have bought others if he just HAD to have tickets after he gave his away. Glad you worked it out.
