National Media Love

Unread post by 85gradinATL » Mon Oct 26, 2015 9:38 am

Stewart Mandel had some praise for Coach Satt in his weekly recap column today.

THIS WEEK’S COACH OF THE YEAR

Appalachian State’s Scott Satterfield. With a 31-13 rout of rival Georgia Southern, the Mountaineers, which moved up to FBS just last year, improved to 6-1. They’ve now won nine straight Sun Belt contests dating to last season.

Interesting that they show Kennan Gilchrist in the receiving yards with 3 targets and no catches. Meadors, perhaps?

We also got some love on SiriusXM College Sports Nation's channel today on 'Full Ride With Chris Childers and Rick Neuheisel". We broke into their Group of Five Top-5 beating out WKU.

It doesn't mean anything outside of their show, but still it's good to hear Appalachian State being talked about on a nationally syndicated show and pronounced correctly.

2. Houston
3. Toledo
4. Temple
5. Appalachian State

He is just upset that App and GS rolled this conference right off the bat and that stAte has been relegated to the B-team.

Sad to say but the instant success both us and Stink have had does not help the Sunbelt's rep.

I have a feeling that Coastal Carolina is going to be successful pretty quickly as well.

Well the more we win, hopefully the quicker we get on the radar of other conferences up the food chain. Like I've said in the past, if the Big XII decides that they want to expand to the amount of teams to reflect their name and they don't take a BYU or Boise State, the two teams they take will probably come out of C-USA or AAC, and those conferences will look to replenish their ranks and I would think both us and GASO would be on their radar in the event that happens. If the AAC can deal with a team in the middle of nowhere like Greenville, then Boone shouldn't be an issue.

It's all speculation but I've always looked at this transition as a "get in to get out" situation.

Can someone link to this aforementioned A-State writer? Looked for it on that Underdog Dynasty link, but didn't see it.

It's more of the smack he's leaving in the comments section.

Uh no, that is by no means even close to what I was saying. I want us to win every game by a wide margin, win every conference title and win every bowl game. It is just that until App and Stink arrived teams like ULL, Alabama St and Ark St looked, comparatively speaking, not too bad. It is just that from the outside some look at the Sunbelt and think that the other programs must really be bad if these two schools can transition in and make a shambles of the rest of the conference so quickly. Hopefully some of the other guys will step it up with their programs and try to rise to our level.

Oh well that explains it. I have a personal policy about avoiding comments sections like the plague.

I won't get into it on here until next week. But A-state's message board is just mostly pure hate on us currently. This is the only reason I don't like the Thursday games, I'm bored for a couple days.

Looking at Arkie's schedule they don't have a lot of room to talk smack about strength of schedule. Four of their final games they should win just by stepping off the bus.

Not to mention, before they get to us, they have to get through those scrappy Georgia State Panthers...like Troy I wouldn't be looking past them to next Thursday either or else they might get embarrassed.

He was being facetious. Fact of the matter is, the Sunbelt wasn't all that well respected before we got here either. ULL had a little rep...Troy, Arkansas State, ULM had a little...It's not like WKU and the Florida directional schools had THAT much hype when C-USA plucked them. Which is exactly why they hired Benson. He took a dog of a Mountain West and turned them into a premier G5 conference and they hoped he could do it again.
