i know we're young but any updates on sumler? id really like to see this guys speed on the field.

John, not really sure why he didn't play yesterday. I do know his parents say all is ok, don't worry. Just wait and we will see. I trust them.

He's young and still adjusting to the system. Even though he came from Oregon, he is human, and goes through an adjustment period like everyone else. He's only a freshman, so we won't know what we have until a few years from now.

i think he did get in a few plays, still don't know why he isn't atleast on kickoffs, but I agree, it looks like just a numbers thing at this moment.

It's a shame that the coaching staff cannot find a place for this type of unique speed.

However, I'm more concerned about our defense at this point. They have shown that they can't defend the triple option (Citadel) and they were picked apart in the passing game by Elon yesterday.

I'm glad to see the win, but they are coming against inferior teams. If we give up this much offense now, what can we expect against better competition?

With whom do you want them to replace Sumler? He's out there on kickoffs but they keep booting it to Tony who is consistently reaching the 30 and 40 yard lines and has come close to breaking it several times.

They also forced three interceptions from Wilson but WHO'S COUNTING? By the way, Elon always has a good offense and always puts up points. Aaron Mellette is easily the best WR in the FCS.

Nothing. I enjoyed and cheered on my Mountaineers as I have for 30+ years. Hoarse today because of it. However, there is NOTHING wrong with folks pointing out things that have to be fixed/worked on/corrected in the future in order for Appalachian to continue to have success in the next five games. I will bet you my house that the coaches, though thrilled with the win yesterday, will head into Monday's practice with a list of things that have to be corrected and/or worked on and will spend more time pointing out to players where mistakes were made yesterday.

Exactly my point. Although the win was nice, the coaching staff WILL definitely sit the players down on Monday and work on the things they need to improve on.

What does not defending the triple option have to do with Elon? That's not the point. The point here is they can't defend the run any better than defending the pass.

I acknowledge the 3 interceptions, but you simply cannot give up 500 and 600 plus yards of offense and expect to win against the better teams. I don't think that Coach Moore's objective was to beat Elon and be happy with the entire season.

My comment was simply acknowledging that we're giving up too much offense and we need still need to improve and play better to have a successful SEASON! I believe Coach Moore will address these issues instead of staying satisfied and complacent. Addressing weaknesses is the only way to improve!

I don't think we have a problem with our secondary. I think the problem rests with the defensive line. While we did record a season high 4 sacks yesterday, for way too much of the game we put little to no pressure on Wilson. When a QB has that much time he can pick any secondary apart.

I have a strong dislike for zone coverage, I think it confuses the defenders more than the offense. I would rather see man coverage and the LBers free to blitz and help with the run.

Yesterday I watched Wilson have the same type of game that Scott Riddle have two years ago in Boone. Deja vu, two years ago for whatever reason Dale Jones decided to not pressure Riddle all day and he ate us alive. It took about a quarter for DJ to realize we needed to get pressure with the some backers to disrupt the fun day that Wilson was having. If we didn't disrupt Wilson once and a while, Mellette would have had 300 yards receiving, he did have a career day against us anyway. Thanks for the adjustments DJ which had much to do with our win.

Along with that, their coach is an idiot for his two field goal attempts because our D had not stopped them any, he gave up a high probability of 2 tds, imo. Completely changed the complexion of the game. Thanks Coach Swepson.

agree our defensive line is young, but no reason they shouldn't get better and stronger, but it's not going to be this year.

agree we all want to see Sumler and what 4.2 speed looks like. My suggestion is pitch him the ball on the end around plays and try to make blocks for him to outrun the D to the edge.

I was concerned about the Defense to some degree, but the truth is that the "inferior" team that we beat yesterday came very close to beating Georgia Southern. The D stiffened up as the game progressed and held on until the Offense ignited. None of these games are "givens" and we need to appreciate a good win against a decent team who was HIGHLY motivated to beat us. Citadel exploited a weakness in our D on a week when the team simply did not click. Yes, I'm concerned about GSU and Wofford, but I think we're getting better with each game.
