Despite a couple thrillers last week, not much movement in the rankings. But things get down to business this week with a bunch of huge games:

I really appreciate the effort you put into this feature. I learn something new each time I read it.

Thanks both! I've actually learned quite a bit myself in doing the research for this series.
Any discussion/debate on the rankings or teams involved is also welcome. I know it sort of falls under the same umbrella as the Peach Bowl pipe dream threads. But I still find it interesting to consider where App (and the other Sun Belt teams) measure up against our peer leagues.

The beauty of playing Thursday night is that it gives us a chance to watch these games with the top G5 powers on Saturday. Navy-Memphis should be a good one. Thanks for the work you do on this project.

Official CFP rankings are out:
13. Memphis
22. Temple
24. Toledo
25. Houston
Quick takeaways:
- Toledo needs more help than I realized. If Memphis or Temple wins the AAC with 1 loss, it looks like they'd get the access bid over a 13-0 Toledo.
- After being criticized for favoring the big names last year, they don't seem to be changing this year. Why are Texas A&M and Mississippi St. ranked at all, much less ahead of Toledo and Houston? Oh right - because SEC.
- Don't expect to see App in these rankings even at 11-1. The G5 teams are simply being held to a different standard than the big boys. I still think we could crack the AP poll, but these guys basically need a G5 to punch them in the face before they'll rank them.

Yep. So basically the access spot likely goes to the AAC winner, unless someone like Cincinnati sneaks up and wins their league title.
