Bowls of Smashed Potatoes [Black & Gold Podcast]

Unread post by APPARJ » Wed Nov 11, 2015 1:04 am

We cover a LOT in this episode.

We start with commenting on the upcoming basketball season, read the mailbag, talk about BOWL POSSIBILITIES and preview the Idaho game.

Buckle up. It's a big episode but as we all experience the new element of bowl season as a fan base, there's a lot to think about!

Great show again, really enjoy listening.

On the bowl situation, I would have to disagree that the Cure Bowl is the more prestigious bowl. While I agree it is the more attractive bowl for the fanbase (including my preference) the Cure Bowl gets the last pick of the SBC eligible programs. Getting picked for the Cure bowl is like getting picked last in kickball, but the team that picks you is full of the kids that are fun to be around.

The bowl picture will be much clearer after ULL and USA play as well as GS and Troy this weekend.

A crazy thing to think about would be if Troy defeats GS and ULL down the stretch, USA defeats ULL, and ULL defeats App. If all those things happen the SBC could have 6 bowl eligible teams for four spots.

Best case scenario for App is USA to beat ULL, and give us an outside shot at the NO bowl, although I'd wager NO would take Ark St. and then we'd get the Go Daddy bowl.

Would people prefer the Go Daddy on the 23rd over Camellia on the 19th? Quite the conundrum.

Thanks for listening, Saint!

Those are interesting points. It seems we're all experiencing the excitement of an FBS regular season the same way we experienced the FCS playoffs. It's not an exact comparison, of course, but it is exciting watching the bowl possibilities develop.

Personally, I'll take Camellia on the 19th. I'm sure Mobile is a fine town but I'd rather not travel 20+ hours round trip right before Christmas. That might sound lame but it's where I am right now. But make no mistake, I'll be thrilled for App State to get an invitation anywhere.
