There was a very good crowd. More than I expected but without half the students there the noise level was low

The energy of the crow is always going to be lower when the students are on campus. I wish we had more there yesterday, but everybody knew that this weekend was a tough sell. I enjoyed the game regardless.

Always hated the post-Thanksgiving games b/c of of lower student turnout, but I love the 2pm start. Not too early, but you also have the rest of the day available and/or gives you time to get home earlier if you arent staying in the mtns overnight

Was thinking yesterday, the sunbelt could do us, GASOU, and the sunbelt a favor by having us play gasou this weekend.

When the students are not on campus???? No thanks! That would be a huge favor for GS, certainly not for us.

For the sole reason of rivalry week, yes that would be fun but with Thanksgiving holiday I think attendance would still be softer.
The App - Southern game needs to be the final regular season game every year...great way to build story lines.

Loved the 2 pm start. I have about an 11 hour round trip. I don't mind getting up a bit earlier because there's a big difference between getting back home at 1:30 to 2 am and 11:00 which is when I got back last night.

More students should come back for the game. Too bad a lot would rather stay home with mommy and daddy instead.

It seems pretty ridiculous for bashing students for prioritizing family time over the holidays. I never understood the students who run home EVERY weekend, but I really can't blame those who take advantage of the long holiday weekend. I wish they'd come back for the game also...maybe make it a family affair, but that's not a realistic option for everyone.

Aren't the dorms closed? I am sure that keeps a lot of students away.

The dorms were opened on Friday, but the on-campus dining wasn't. Yes they can go off-campus to eat, but it's an inconvenience.

Dorms were opened for the game. I think Friday evening.
To address some other thoughts:
Here is my irony. Have a daughter at App but to help offset some of the cost I now picked up a weekend job at the local Science Center. Every weekend I have been on the job was a home game this year. I did make it to the Ark St game and did my best on the Friday afterwards.
My daughter had to pick up a part-time job herself and missed her first App football game as a student yesterday. She came home late Thursday and drove back to Boone Friday mid-afternoon. Worked Saturday morning and then drove back home Saturday, listening to the end of the game on the way home. She wanted to visit her grandmother from Florida. She will be driving back to Boone while I am at work.
There are lots stories out there on why folks can't make it to the game.

I'm not bashing the students at all for going home for Thanksgiving but I do want to add one thing to the discussion. We really should try to push to get as many as possible to come back early (and all services should be open from Friday morning on to help with that) given that in about two weeks they will be done for the year and going home (or elsewhere) for over a month. Given that there were no classes Wednesday many left on Tuesday after classes (also talked to faculty that said a lot didn't even come for Tuesday classes) or Wednesday morning so that's at least one extra day. People should be with family on Thanksgiving but with some days before the holiday and a month off for Christmas two weeks later hopefully we can make a push to try and get more back for Saturday if we continue to get stuck with Thanksgiving weekend games. And given the attendance I've seen at many SB games in the past few weeks that were not holiday weekends, I have a feeling we'll be getting more of these as home games.
