Re: Camelia Bowl
Interesting quote from Benson:appstate1998 wrote:http://espn.go.com/college-football/sto ... -join-them
"These three Sun Belt teams are well deserving bowl teams with nine or more wins," Benson said. "I wish we had more teams bowl eligible, but these are the top of the class. Whichever bowls get those three teams are getting top-rated teams with great fan bases."
Since we're the only one who actually has nine wins so far, I guess that tells you what Benson thinks of Ga. State's and Texas State's chances Saturday.

Re: Camelia Bowl
As much as I think the GoDaddy is a slightly better bowl, especially since it's the only game on TV, this works out much better for travel.

Re: Camelia Bowl
Seems like a bit of shaft to me, I rank GoDaddy above Camellia, guess it may depend on the opponent though too.

It's on TV. After all, it's sponsored by ESPN Events. http://espnevents.com/camellia-bowl/

Re: Camelia Bowl
I sort of feel the same way. This will be only the 2nd Camelia Bowl ever played. Last year Bowling Green beat USA. We are getting an expansion bowl bid. Regardless, nothing to do now but make the most of it.biggie wrote:Seems like a bit of shaft to me, I rank GoDaddy above Camellia, guess it may depend on the opponent though too.

Re: Camelia Bowl
Both bowls choose MAC teams and I think they'll be pretty comparable opponents. GoDaddy likely chose stink for $$$ puposes, since that is what drives the bowls anywaybiggie wrote:Seems like a bit of shaft to me, I rank GoDaddy above Camellia, guess it may depend on the opponent though too.

Re: Camelia Bowl
Overall, I think December 19 vs December 23 works better for "most" of our fan base. I'm just glad it's the 19th and not the 23rd. Go Apps!!!!

Re: Camelia Bowl
No doubt that's how they made their pick. Also, let's be realistic and note that App and Southern are tied in the standings and expected to finish that way. Sure we beat them head-to-head and they didn't have to play A-State, but if we expect bowls at this level to get into that kind of depth in making their picks, we're kidding ourselves.mtnjax wrote:Both bowls choose MAC teams and I think they'll be pretty comparable opponents. Plus, of all the embarrassing names of lower-tier bowls, "GoDaddy Bowl" might be the worst. It's like it was invented to give people an example to name when they're arguing there are too many bowls. I'm fine with not being associated with the company that's best known for making the worst Super Bowl ad every year.

Re: Camelia Bowl
CBS Sports had us playing NIU in the Camelia Bowl. Could be a good matchup if all of our guys are healed up.

Camelia Bowl is on ESPN Saturday Dec. 19 at 5:30pm est.BUTCH1991 wrote:As much as I think the GoDaddy is a slightly better bowl, especially since it's the only game on TV, this works out much better for travel.
Re: Camelia Bowl
I think it's perfect. It's the closest one, it's on a Saturday, and it's only two weeks after our last regular season game. It acts like another bye so we have time to get more healed up, but it's not too far out so we are rusty. Some of those teams wait 4-5 weeks before playing again. The extra practices are nice, but Spring ball is right around the corner. Give 'em Hell Apps!!!

Re: Camelia Bowl
The Camellia is played in an old stadium renovated in 2011 that now seats 21k...
It does not have a track around the field though.....Hopefully we can fill it up.

Re: Camelia Bowl
Looking at flights, it isn't going to be cheap to fly down there, but it could be worse. I wish I knew the details of a Yosef charter...

Re: Camelia Bowl
The stadium actually holds 24,000 and looks rather nice. Let's take it over. Shouldn't be a problem to get a nice APP crowd there.
One other comment. We don't need to start downplaying the GoDaddy bowl. It is a good bowl in a good city. Let's be thankful that we are going to a bowl game and wish GSU luck in theirs.

Re: Camelia Bowl
While I'm not big on Alabama for any bowl game, I'll say this.... We are new to the FBS, and we've got to earn "it" in the minds of those who decide these things. So, Camellia Bowl, I'm fine with. It's a BIG deal we did this in our first year in the FBS. We go in there, we pack the stands with App Fans (KBS West... just like the "Dirty") and beat the fool out of the MAC team (BG?). We show bowl officials what it means when you decide to give an invite to Appalachian State!
Nothing is free, we deserve no better status that what we have earned thus far. We keep earning it, building it, and growing it... then we can carry the leverage to make the argument for bigger bowls. As it stands, I'm LOVING the Camellia Bowl... I hope you'll come bowling with me and the 3 I am bringing!
No Christmas travel issues, family holiday issues, pack them all, bring them all and lets show what it means to be Mountaineers!
DAMN PROUD TO BE A MOUNTAINEER!
