Yeah - just saw that mentioned on another message board. Lots of coaches in NYC for some NCAA coaches function - guess that is where those things s/t take place. Hoping for stability for App State

Re: Fritzi to Interview
Wasn't Meacham erroneously reported to be the new North Texas coach also? Dude's name gets around.
Not going to sweat this one too much re: Satt. Just doesn't seem like the kind of job you'd leave about any other FBS HC job for, much less your alma mater where you just got a new deal and have the program rolling. I'd be more worried if it came out that he were fishing for interest from them a la Fritz.

Tulane is a dead end. I can't see Satt leaving after 2 years for that job even if the money is good. Maybe he will be the Bob McKillop of App....could make more money elsewhere but is fulfilled where he is.

I never mentioned Satt w/ this job. It's being reported that Fritz interviewed yesterday. I think it goes to how bad he wants out of Statesboro.

GS wil never be able throw the ball. The restless natives don't have the patience for that changeover. Look at how it went from 2006-2009AppFan11 wrote:Coach Fritz will interview with Tulane tomorrow. He has made statements that he can't get Gaso to throw the ball. I guess we'll see.
They'll just find a new coach who runs some form of option to "keep their tradition"

I want GS to keep Fritz, look at his resume at GS, he got smoked in the two rivalry games this year and with the game on the line makes questionable calls.

Re: Fritzi to Interview
The newspaper down there has listed Satt as a candidate for the Tulane job. I'd be very interested to know if that's just a name they threw out that they would be interested in or if he might seriously consider interviewing down there.

Re: Fritzi to Interview
Tulane? Who the heck would want that gig unless they can write a big check. Talk about a program going nowhere. App has great opportunities (IMO) for the future. A great NC schedule next year to go with what should be a loaded squad, a very winnable conference schedule. Unfortunately we will probably be stuck with a somewhat crappy bowl but with the craziness of college football we could look to move to a better conference in a few years. I would never blame Satt if he had the chance to quadruple his salary but hopefully he loves App enough to stay for a many years.

Re: Fritzi to Interview
The Sun Belt is what it is for now, but the pieces are in place for the Belt to perform favorably against the other G5 conferences. The bottom of the conference is improving and App and GS add strength to the top. If ULL can get it's junk back together and others continue to improve our bowl alignments will evolve. Maybe we will move to another conference at some point, but it might not even be necessary. Nothing's going to happen over night though, so I'm enjoying our success while we're here!

Re: Fritzi to Interview
Satt's name has been thrown out as a "possible candidate" in several articles for various jobs. I think the writers just see a G-5 coach with 10 wins and assume he'll be interested.appst89 wrote:The newspaper down there has listed Satt as a candidate for the Tulane job. Man Willie is just busting his ass to get the hell out of Stinkboro. Can't say I blame him. Can't say I blame the GS players for getting torched at home last week when in the back of their minds they know their head coach is campaigning for another school -- ANY school -- to take him.

Re: Fritzi to Interview
My impression is that Tulane has legitimate interest in Satt. Whether it's mutual, I don't know. I could see him talking to them in NYC because, why not?, but I'd be surprised if he really pursued the job. With other jobs where his name has popped up (S. Carolina, ECU), I think you're right - just reporters looking at G5 teams who are winning and close in geography.

Re: Fritzi to Interview
My impression with Fritz - and again, this is just personal speculation - is that he wants to climb the coaching ladder and knows the clock is running out for him to do so. He's 55, and how often do you see a P5 hire a coach who's pushing 60 and has no P5 experience? At that age, they want a proven high-level winner. If they go into the G5/coordinator/FCS ranks, they want someone they view as a young up-and-comer. So if Fritz wants to ever have a shot at a P5 job - or really, any other FBS job - he needs to move along quickly. If he were hired at Tulane, I imagine he'd be looking to move on from there ASAP too.
Of course, it could just be that he wants to make as much $ before retirement as possible, too. Couldn't blame him for that.
Satt's in a different place in his career. Yes he has much deeper personal ties to App than Fritz/GaSo, but he also has more time to move up (if that's his desire). At 43, he's got plenty of time to wait on the right job rather than aggressively campaign for anything that's available.

Re: Fritzi to Interview
Not that I think Satterfield would move to Tulane, but for those of you saying Tulane is a dead end job remember we have a former head coach at Appalachian that went to Tulane (not directly but with a stop in between) and eventually was probably at the top of the ranks of coaches, jobs, salary and national championships.
Any HC job, if you are good enough, is a good gig and can lead to bigger and better things. I would venture to say it is easier to move up by showing progress at a Tulane, etc, then it is to just maintain at a better program. Of course it is more challenging to do well at those types of programs but in the end that is what separates the good coach from the great coach.
