Truth, officially Sunday when all the bowls are announces. Even if they were to announce prior to Sunday, it would not happen before the MAC opponent is determined.
“When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows.”

Any chance our bowl venue changes Sunday if the 5-7 teams are let in? Where will they play? It would really stink for a 5-7 from a larger conference to get into a better bowl with a larger payout than a 10-2 App team. I fully expect it but it still stinks.

Nope, even if USA or GA St. wins the bowls for GS and App aren't changing.
The Cure bowl would get USA or GA ST if they win, if both lose they will take a 5-7 team.
Also the "payout" isn't what it seems. The payout typically consists of a ticket allotment and if the university sales them they get the proceeds.

Any bowl payout is paid to the conference who then distributes all accumulated payouts to each conference member. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I have always heard that an advantage of going to any bowl is the extra free practice time awarded to the schools.

I am wondering this as well. I thought the Sun Belt disbursed bowl payouts to all members -- one of the benefits of being a conference member.eggers76 wrote:Any bowl payout is paid to the conference who then distributes all accumulated payouts to each conference member. Does anyone know if the payout goes to App exclusively, or if it goes to everyone in the SB?

I think that's right and last year the Camellia payout was a whopping 100k divided among SB conference football member institutions. We get our cut from the other two as well so hopefully it will cover our costs. It just occured to me that if the SB does not send a team to the Cure it hurts. I think that bowl has the largest payout which could go to a different conference now.eggers76 wrote:Any bowl payout is paid to the conference who then distributes all accumulated payouts to each conference member. We talked to Doug Gillin at the last home game. He said the payout goes to the conference and from there the conference disperses to football schools. It is also used to help pay for expenses to those schools that do play in a bowl game.Alan wrote:I am wondering this as well. Pretty sure the conference covers any shortfall a bowl team has first then disperses what left. So lets say GS has a bunch of unsold tickets while we sell all of ours. Some of the money we make will go towards their loss. I believe the conference set this up before we joined.kiddbrewer wrote:We talked to Doug Gillin at the last home game. There was a good article last year regarding ULL and Sun Belt bowl finances. Based on the article, the bowl payout is split between the conference and the team. The conference does subsidize shortfalls.
