Field Goal Kicking
Matics deserves more kudos than I could ever give him on here. After the season he has last year, to come back so strong this season, is simply outstanding. Way to go, young man!
Give 'em hell!

Re: Field Goal Kicking
And if I remember right that one miss was a 50+ yarder. This has got to be one of if not the best year an App kicker has ever had. And that on the heels of maybe one of the worst seasons. Its always great to see a player take adversity and turn it into strength like that.hapapp wrote:He has missed 1 kick all year and has 3 50+ yard FGS!
One of my great satisfactions when I was coaching soccer was to see one of my players respond the right way to a poor performance and turn it around.

And for his tackle on the final kickoff.

I was hoping ESPN would give it to him. (Moore got it)Saint3333 wrote:Comeback player of the year, truly amazing, give the kid the gameball!

The thing is, he is drilling these field goals RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE too!! Great job Zach "Auto" Matics!

Yes, in addition to his two 50+ yard field goals plus making all the PATs, he makes a saving tackle preventing another SoAla TD. That adds up to 17 points.AppinVA wrote:And for his tackle on the final kickoff.

Without a doubt the biggest turn around I've seen by one guy in a years time. He went from being benched to being a potential NFL player.

An amazing story. His hard work and improvement mirrors that of the team. Last year's losses seem a century ago. Kudos also to the coaching staff for believing in these guys and not giving up on players like Mattics, when many of us would have.

He wasn't benched, just got injured at GS. But yeah, he wasn't injured at Southern Miss.JTApps1 wrote:Without a doubt the biggest turn around I've seen by one guy in a years time. He went from being benched to being a potential NFL player.
Matics was on Mountaineer Talk this year and talked about coming back after that game.
Perfect on PAT'S and only one FG miss this season. Special teams as a whole have played much better. The muff yesterday was the first special teams turnover this season.
