Re: Sun Belt names all-conference teams.
South Alabama, which was 10th in the league in scoring offense, has more players on 1st team offense than App, who was 2nd in scoring and 1st in total offense.
Georgia State (7th in scoring offense) with as many on 1st team offense as App and A-State combined (2nd and 1st, respectively).
Nice recognition for the defense, though, as there should be.

Re: Sun Belt names all-conference teams.
I think our stand out players were recognized, except for one...where is Beau Nunn? Also interesting that Knighten got the second team nod even though Lamb beats him in most QB categories. I guess they favor seniors.

Re: Sun Belt names all-conference teams.
Outside of Cox, no one else on the offense gets enough touches to show good statistical production. Lamb does a good job of spreading the ball around to everyone. I'm not a big fan of putting 2 OL players with the same position on the first team (ie. Chapman & Scelfo). IMO App's best lineman (Nunn) got absolutely no recognition which I guess is due in part to him getting injured.

Re: Sun Belt names all-conference teams.
Nunn missed half the SBC season so not surprising, he'll get on it the next two years.
Tyson Fernandez is the "snub" for me and maybe McElfresh for honorable mention. But we just spread the ball around too much for these awards.
Nice to see Moore get on the newcomer list, he's going to be special.
Blair may have seriously been considered POTY, he deserved DPOTY.

And most, if not all, of the U Lala players are general studies majors.

Re: Sun Belt names all-conference teams.
Nunn missed a lot of time due to injury. I also think Fernandez deserved a mention but nose tackles in a 3-4 don't collect a lot of personal stats. I don't have a lot of issue with the selections. Lamb will get his chance as both Freddy K and Nick A graduate.

I wonder the same thing. How exactly does one go 4 years to a university and receive a degree in general studies? What is that? Do you just take random classes for 4 years?AppStateNews wrote:And most, if not all, of the U Lala players are general studies majors.

Re: Sun Belt names all-conference teams.
Basically a liberal arts major. App has it as well, it's at least partially under Watauga College and is actually very challenging there (or at least some of the classes are). But if it's where the football players cluster at A-State, I'm guessing it's not as tough there.BUTCH1991 wrote:What is Interdisciplinary Studies? I don't think stats have that much to do with it. I think it has a lot to do with the promotion of certain players. Tyson should have been at least 2nd team.

Re: Sun Belt names all-conference teams.
I'm guessing USA and Georgia State didn't have too many blowout wins where they pulled their starters after the third quarter. Wonder how different our guys' stats would look if they'd gone full-throttle for 60 minutes vs. Howard, ODU, Ga. State, ULM and Idaho.

Re: Sun Belt names all-conference teams.
Anybody else puzzled by the Trent Miles pick as coach of the year? That award should go to the coach's body of work for the entire season, not the last six games. Otherwise, Satterfield should have won it last year.

from 1 win in his first 2 years to 6 wins and a bowl game is pretty deservingAppGrad78 wrote:Anybody else puzzled by the Trent Miles pick as coach of the year? What is the percentage of people who receive a degree in criminal justice who actually go into some sort of law enforcement?

Re: Sun Belt names all-conference teams.
COY is pretty much awarded with a handicap - it seems to always go to the coach whose team exceeded expectations the most rather than the one whose team actually had the best year. If the media didn't think your team was going to suck, you probably aren't winning the award. Kind of silly IMO.AppGrad78 wrote:Anybody else puzzled by the Trent Miles pick as coach of the year? Re: Sun Belt names all-conference teams.
Who won Coach of the Year for the SunBelt last year? I remember thinking that Satterfield should have had a good shot at that, but I never saw it listed anywhere. I even looked around on the SunBelt web site, but never saw anything about the coach who won that award.AppGrad78 wrote:Anybody else puzzled by the Trent Miles pick as coach of the year? Re: Sun Belt names all-conference teams.
After watching Trent Miles' post game presser following the APP game I have no beef with him receiving COY. It was truly a remarkable turnaround for the Panthers and I am glad they have improved.

Not just 6 wins, but also totally obliterating and embarrassing the the iggles AT the Stink! Also, if I recall correctly they were also the champions of ESPN's bottom 10 last year.mtnjax wrote:from 1 win in his first 2 years to 6 wins and a bowl game is pretty deservingAppGrad78 wrote:Anybody else puzzled by the Trent Miles pick as coach of the year?
